Even though I'm still a bit embarrassed about being so emotional, all the feels came rushing in for me to see the result of the painstaking work it took to bring the talent together for the story we're about to tell.

Taking my time, thinking it through, watching tapes endlessly and deliberating over what made logical and emotional sense to the aesthetics I saw in my mind's eye.

Then to have them say yes - and then appear! It got me in the throat! So here they are...

When children become caregivers, who takes care of them...

That’s the question at the heart of VIVI—a short film about a ten-year-old Haitian-American girl who becomes the translator, advocate, and caregiver for her immigrant grandparents as they navigate healthcare and language barriers.

We are grateful to NY State Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn @rbichotte representing Brooklyn’s 42nd Assembly District, for championing the Child Caregiver Study Bill, A3595 on May 29:

“Today I passed the Child caregiver study bill A3595 that would mandate state education department a study on children who are caregivers who care for sick parents, disabled relatives, aging grandparents or younger siblings so that resources can be available so that they can succeed.”

This is why #theVIVIfilm matters. Children who care for others deserve care, too.
