Phi is for Finally.
Maybe it shows, maybe it doesn’t, but I‘ve long regarded this painting as my personal playground. A canvas to endlessly experiment on. Although that should be be the case with the majority of my work, I mostly follow at least half a plan and explore within those boundaries. This painting though has developped organically and chaotically subject to my moods. It was only after many months and many layers of paint that „Amor & Psyche“ started to chrystallize out of the volumes and colours. Based only very loosely on the classical myth, I chose to emphasize the aspect of (too much) Curiosity as well as the power of Beauty as the main themes of the tale. With the infamous treasure chest containing underworld Goddess Proserpina’s Beauty, as stolen by Psyche on Venus‘ behest, on the bottom of the composition, sneakily opened by Amor.
Once the composition started to take it‘s definite shape, things fell on their places as though I’d planned it from the start. I began to wonder whether that good old Golden Section was at play again.
Rather for fun than anything else I placed Fibonacci‘s spiral over the composition and it turned out to match like a glove. Of course from that discovery on I couldn‘t resist adding two or three small details placed to nail it.

When Mr. Andres Andrekson aka @stressmusic asked me to create a painting for his upcoming superproject "How to Heal / How to deal with Stress" I didn‘t have to think long.
The painting will serve as artwork for Stress' new album as well as his second book ( @echtzeit.ch ).

Andres felt, oilpainting and mental healing (which is the core theme of his new Opus) kinda match, "because it‘s both fuzzy". He won me there! In the weeks following, we‘ve had many sessions, each of several hours, discussing life, love, bullshit and meaning and when we suddenly realized we’d still never discussed strategy for the painting, it all fell on its place within about two minutes. A trialogue between the different aspects of oneself, trying to figure out a way how to deal. With life, with loss, with pain, with joy.

I decided to name the painting "Dealing With Andres", or "D.W.A.", because Stress may be the fellow artist, but Andres has become a very dear and inspiring friend.
