Great day painting. The first is my start up in Grafton cemetery. @marc_dalessio gave a great morning demo and @danielzalla.art generously shared his skills in the afternoon… yesterday the fabulous @katestarlingfineart shared her knowledge and insights. Pics of the very funny @samuelshoskins @kylekcma and the wonderful @annatgustafson and @ryansbrown who organized this whole event! …. Oh and of course the donkey! Has been great to hang out with everyone. More to come ! Onward ho! Tomorrow I demo in the morning, bringing lots of water! Also and most wonderfully it is my dad’s 93 birthday! I wish I could be home to celebrate. He is one marvelous man!
Life is quite an adventure. My best to you, Bethann

The great Wendell Berry has joined the chorus of the heavens. Rest in peace Wendell. This first group of images are details from a painting from last summer. I was wondering what to paint and I heard the voice of Wendell Berry say “go paint the cosmos and the zinnias in the garden…. “ So I did.. His voice was so clear in my mind that I scrawled it out on a piece of cardboard, and it hangs in my studio to this day. This painting is 60 tall by 40 wide. It is available right from my studio, direct message me if you might be interested I can send you a detailed video. The second group of images is of a painting, I titled after his poem,”The Peace of Wild Things”. His poems like all of his work is worth a read, a deep dive, a soak it into your heart, a carry with you wherever you go. The second painting was done nearly 10 years earlier…. What I didn’t realize is, they are exactly the same size. Wendell Berry is was wonderful writer a consistent human being. And if I hear his voice again I will certainly listen to what he tells me to paint next! A message from the heavens.

Go pick up some Wendell Berry. And if you’re interested in ” Wendell Berry Told Me To Go Into The Garden To Paint The Cosmos And Zinnias “, just direct message me. I’d love to place that painting with someone who can enjoy the calm vitality of it. My best to you, Bethann

A personal favorite that is included in the Willow invitational exhibition. This one for me, is greater than the sum of its parts. Such simple objects; a small scalloped edge bowl that I bought in a charity shop in Scotland filled with moss and a blue bell at its side….. so quiet , so expansive. The Willow Invitational exhibition and sale opens today. Thank you to all of those who worked on this show and sale. I wish I could be there with you all to celebrate and paint.!

And thank you for your kind support of my work , I appreciate it more than you know.
Cheers , Bethann

Swipe to see it in black and white. This was one of my favorite paintings from the week of painting in the Door County Plein Air Festival. It was the second of two small studies at the ever charming Fish Creek Public Beach. I was packing up to leave after doing the first one (swipe to see), I made one trip to the car with my stuff and on my way back to get the rest of my gear I looked at the light. It was changing so quickly that I decided to hunker in and do one more ! This was about a 20 minute painting everything just fell into place. Each stroke stands for itself, simple stated. Over the course of the week I turned in 12paintings (plus 4 that I did not turn in). And I am very happy to report nearly all are now sold including my quick paint. I am so grateful to all of the collectors and onlookers. PenArts staff and volunteers are fabulous. Also grateful to all the sponsors of the event, fellow artists and my terrific hosts! It was a challenging week with smoke and wind and a tornado warning but in the end we all found beauty and camaraderie at each turn! Thank you again to all those that purchased work! I am grateful to have been included again this year! It was a pleasure to meet this years judge, Kelly Kane! Congrats to all those who won awards! I am home now and getting ready for the next adventure! Onward ho!

Tomorrow we turn in paintings for Door County Plein Air. This one gave me a run for my money…. I painted it on two separate locations because the wind blew the first stand of holly hocks over. So I went to a second location and patched in what I could. This is one of my larger ones about 24 x 25”…. A few tweeks tomorrow morning, and then it will be framed and submitted. The second painting I’m sharing is of these beautiful birch trees at Newport State Park. My tripod broke while I was there and thank goodness there was the Albert and Helen Tucker bench. It was dedicated to them, and it said a long legacy of love.!!! I could really feel that long legacy of love not only because it rescued me from having to paint on the ground but also because that day was my 31st wedding anniversary!!! it felt really poignant. I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Helen and Albert Tucker, and even though I never met them, they did live a legacy of love! My best to you I’ll share my other paintings with you later. Now off to bed, tomorrow, framing! And to the love of my life @patjonran , I’ll be seeing you soon!

Bee, Blossom, Cloud, oil 60x48” In a handmade custom frame 67x54” available @edgewoodorchardgalleries
this painting is part of the current exhibition at Edgewood Orchard galleries in Door County, Wisconsin. The theme of the exhibition is “best in show” and features dogs, cats, hummingbirds, and this painting, which includes the BEEs!
This is a plein air spot I have returned to several times. I love the way the beehive connects to the blossoms and the blossoms connect to the clouds…. A game of telephone if you will. All of nature so interconnected! I love the promise of the blossoms because they will bare fruit and the hive will give us a portion of honey. Bees are amazing creatures! Hope you have moments of sweetness in your life right now and a little bit of thrill, like the sound of a bee hive when you are 6 feet away! Oh the buzzing! Cheers, Bethann
If you know someone who might like this painting would you consider sharing it with them? Thank you!

This first one is a sneak peek for the Door County Plein Air Festival, small works show. I love that in the middle of a Hollyhock there is a little star shape so this one is called the star of Door County…. My kind of fireworks! Happy Birthday America!
I’m looking forward to painting again July 19 till the 25th @penartdc for the Door County Plein Air Festival.
Image two: I went to Lake Mendota to paint the sailboats at Hoofer Sailing Club @hoofersailingclub So windy my hat almost blew in the water.! This painting will it be available @toryfolliardgallery as well as two other others that will be in the summer in Wisconsin show.
Finally the opening @edgewoodorchardgalleries was absolutely terrific! So many friends old and new stopped in. Thank you Edgewood for placing 13 of my 20 paintings with collectors! There are a few favorites still available… one of them is titled woman singing from a window. I’m not sure why, but this is one of my personal favorites. Also, I went back to headlands park and painted a small study of that beautiful escarpment. It is also available at Edgewood Orchard Gallery. If you know someone who may like my work I hope you will share it with them! There are few seats open for my September workshop at Peninsula school of art @penartdc if you’re interested. Other than that, the Moran‘s have been having a busy and lively summer! If you know someone going up to Door County for the plein air event, I hope you will consider sharing my work with them. I really appreciate it. I hope your days are breezy, Bethann
