The First Light is a new podcast from Houston’s First exploring the intersection of mental health and faith - with honest conversations, thoughtful guests & topics chosen with prayer and purpose.

Whether you’re walking through something yourself or walking alongside someone who is, we hope this podcast meets you right where you are.

Maybe you’re tired of repeating the same choices, carrying the same guilt, or promising yourself that next time will be different. You don’t have to keep going in that direction. Repentance means bringing your sin to Jesus and turning toward Him with a changed heart and mind.

But following Jesus can bring us face to face with fear: What will people think? What will my family say? Am I ready to make my faith public?

Bring your questions and fears to God. Ask Him for courage to follow where He’s leading.

What would it look like to respond to His invitation today?

The waiting is hard. The story you’re telling yourself may be making it harder.

When God hasn’t provided what we hoped for, fear can fill in the blanks: Maybe He’s forgotten me. Maybe He isn’t good. Maybe I can’t trust Him.

But an unanswered question doesn’t make God unfaithful. We can bring Him our disappointment and ask for help trusting His character while the need is still unresolved.

Where might fear or frustration be shaping how you see Him today?

40 years ago today I trusted Jesus as my Savior! by @pastorgregg

Anger might get results in the moment, but it won't carry you long term. Before you strike the rock, ask what you're really angry about and bring it before the Lord.

God's grace, not our anger, brings His provision 🤲

Should Christians vote? 🗳️

The Bible never mentions a ballot box, and it won’t tell you who to vote for. But it gives us a way to approach the ballot. Pastor Gregg Matte calls it the “6 Ps of Voting:”
1️⃣ PRAYER: Begin with God. Before you consider anyone on the ballot, bring it to Him.
2️⃣ POLICIES: Candidates come and go, but policies stay. Vote for what will remain after the person is gone.
3️⃣ PARTNERSHIPS: No one governs alone. Who will they appoint and partner with?
4️⃣ PERSON: Know the candidate. Consider the candidate’s beliefs and experiences, strengths and weaknesses.
5️⃣ PARTICIPATE: Steward your vote. Not voting is still a choice.
6️⃣ PEACE: Whoever wins, God is still on His throne.

This free booklet goes deeper on every P including reflection questions and a prayer to pray before you head to the polls.

Honored to speak to the Houston Christian High School football team today! As the Lord would have it, it was also the day of First Baptist Academy 8th graders touring the school.

So encouraging to be around such great kids of the next generation! by @pastorgregg

In a city constantly on the move, it’s especially meaningful to gather, dream, celebrate, and pray as we see God moving.

So that’s what we did with some key churches who have been champions of the Sending Center vision and execution.

Thanks @pastorgregg for sharing about UBA’s history in innovation for the sake of our city and how we can partner to do it yet again through the Sending Center.

🚀May God use this space as a launchpad for healthy ministry that outlives us all.

Mental health struggles don’t disqualify you from God’s love - they remind you how much you need His care. 💚

God knows the weight you carry. And He offers real ways to begin healing: refreshment, rest, revelation, and relationships.

You are seen. You are loved. You are not alone.
