Let's fly together.
Building youth leadership for social change.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Something has shifted.

As more young people became part of our journey,
we grew with them.
And with that growth came a question:

How should our identity reflect who we are today?

Today, we’re introducing Patang’s refreshed logo,
designed to represent movement, participation,
and the collective growth that defines our work.

Let’s Fly Together
is more than a line.
It reflects our belief that meaningful change is never solitary.

This is a new chapter for Patang.
And we’re glad to step into it with you.

Join us as we grow into this new chapter.

Coming Together for Change | Celebrating Youth-Led Social Action

Patang’s Squirrel Programme brought together community youth, volunteers and stakeholders to celebrate the power of collective action and youth leadership.

The celebration began with a vibrant welcome performance by the community of Rantal Village, Jujomura, followed by the inauguration through the simple yet meaningful act of watering a plant—symbolising growth, hope and collective action.

A special highlight of the celebration was recognising the incredible contributions of 50+ youth volunteers from 22 villages across 4 Gram Panchayats, who have been actively contributing towards child rights, community action and positive social change.

The celebration also honoured the continued contributions of community stakeholders, institutions and volunteers, recognising the partnerships and shared efforts that make this journey possible.

The event concluded on a vibrant note with beautiful songs and dance performances by Squirrel field children and youth volunteers, making the celebration truly memorable.

Together, we celebrate young people who are not just dreaming of change, but creating it—one community at a time.

A New Chapter for Gender-Equal Campuses!

Patang launched the updated Gender Champions Course (GCC) on 17 September 2026 in Bhubaneswar, bringing together representatives from 8 colleges, 4 universities and 3 NGO partners to strengthen our collective commitment to gender equality in higher education.

The Gender Champions Course has been an important part of Patang’s work with young people for several years. With its new digital format, available through a website and Android app, the course is now more accessible, allowing students to engage with questions of gender, relationships, power and equality at their own pace.

The launch also marked a significant milestone in our journey, with Patang signing 9 MoUs with higher education institutions across Odisha to expand the reach and implementation of GCC.

The event featured a keynote address by Professor F. M. Sahoo on Gender Equality, Youth and the Role of Educational Institutions, followed by a panel discussion reflecting on the journey, evolution and continued relevance of GCC for young people and educational institutions today.

We also took the opportunity to recognise four institutions that have been part of the GCC journey: Gangadhar Meher University, Government Women’s College, Sundargarh, Model Degree College, Nuapada, and Dr. PMIASE, Sambalpur. Their continued partnership has been instrumental in taking this work forward.

What began as a learning journey with a few institutions is now entering a new phase, opening up opportunities for more young people to question gender norms, challenge inequalities and contribute to safer, more respectful and equitable campuses.

We look forward to taking this journey forward with our partners and the young people at the heart of GCC!

What if children could decide what change they wanted to see? 💙
It started with a simple idea — give children the space to speak, listen, discuss, and decide together.
Through the Children’s Wallet, children identified problems around them, shared their ideas, listened to different perspectives, prioritised their needs, and took collective action. They were not just recipients of support — they became decision-makers and changemakers.
And their ideas turned into action. 🌱
📚 4 Child Cub was set up.
⚽ Sports materials were brought in.
🌳 Nearly 2,000 saplings were planted.
🏫 11 out-of-school children were re-admitted, with 7 students supported for DCA/OSCIT admissions.
🏥 Healthcare support was facilitated.
🤝 Children connected and learned through an exchange with YCDA.
9 projects. One bigger change.
But perhaps the biggest change was not what was created or purchased.
It was the confidence to say:
“This is our problem. This is our idea. And this is what we can do about it.”
Because when children are given the opportunity to lead, they don’t just imagine change — they make it happen. ✨
By the children.
For the children.

Life Skills Education with Adolescents

Life Skills sessions were conducted with Class 7 and 8 students across four schools- Jhankarpali Uper Primary School, Kulsar Upper Primary School, Badsahir Upper Primary School and K.G.M.N High School, engaging around 400 adolescents in meaningful, participatory learning. The sessions created a safe space for students to understand physical, mental and emotional changes during adolescence, explore child rights, gender and stereotypes, gender-based violence, healthy relationships, substance use and the importance of staying in school. Through discussions, activities, reflection and peer sharing, students were encouraged to question, express, reflect and connect their learning with everyday life. The reflections shared by students highlight growing awareness of their rights, relationships, gender and social realities—helping them build confidence and make informed, positive choices.

Asok Mitra Memorial Lecture | Building Self-Confidence

The School of Psychology, Gangadhar Meher University (GMU), in collaboration with Patang, organized the Asok Mitra Memorial Lecture on “Building Self-Confidence.”

The session brought together students, faculty members, and professionals from the School of Psychology for an engaging conversation on confidence, competence, connection, and personal growth.

The programme featured Dr. F. M. Sahoo as the Chief Speaker and Dr. Rita Mishra,Founder & CEO,Patang as the Keynote Speaker, with Prof. Byomkesh Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor, GMU, and Prof. Partha Sarathi Mallik, PGC, GMU, as Guests of Honour.

Dr. Rita Mishra opened the session with a powerful video based on Abraham Lincoln’s letter and highlighted how self-confidence grows through meaningful connections, exposure to diverse people and communities, travel and exploration, and active listening.

Taking the discussion forward, Dr. F. M. Sahoo made the session highly interactive and introduced the 5 Formulas for Building Self-Confidence:

🔹 Quantify & Master – Measure your confidence and build mastery.
🔹 Competency – Develop General, Domain, and Collective Efficiency.
🔹 Persuasion – “We can do it, so you can do it.”
🔹 Role Model – Learn from people around you whom you can observe and learn from.
🔹 Positive Interpretation – Focus on the power of Now.

One key reminder from the session was: Just as physical exercise strengthens the body, mental exercise strengthens the mind. Learning new languages, exploring new ideas, and staying curious are simple ways to keep our minds active.

✨ Self-confidence is not something we simply have—it is something we build through learning, practice, connection, and experience.

Mental Health & Well-being Workshop

Patang organised a two-day Mental Health & Well-being Workshop in Sambalpur, bringing together around 25 youth volunteers from rural and urban areas of Sambalpur and Bargarh. The workshop aimed to create a safe and open space where young people could understand mental health, reflect on their own experiences, and explore how they can support themselves and others in their personal lives and community work.

The sessions were facilitated by Dr. F. M. Sahoo, who shared his rich experience and knowledge through simple, practical, and engaging discussions. The volunteers explored important themes such as mental health, stress, anxiety, depression, self-awareness, and resilience. Through conversations and reflections, they also connected these topics with real-life concerns including family stress, career choices, financial pressure, supporting friends, and working with children.

One of the key learnings from the workshop was that resilience is not simply about fighting back or being strong all the time. It is also about knowing oneself, understanding one’s strengths and limitations, recognising when support is needed, and knowing whom to reach out to. The discussions encouraged volunteers to look at mental health with greater openness, empathy, and understanding.

The active participation, curiosity, questions, and personal reflections shared by the volunteers made the workshop a meaningful learning space. It also reinforced the importance of creating supportive and non-judgmental environments where young people feel comfortable talking about their emotions and seeking support when needed.

Leadership Begins Here: Community Life Skills Outreach
Unlocking the potential of adolescents, one village at a time.
Life skills aren't just concepts — they're the tools our children need to understand themselves, communicate with confidence, and navigate everyday challenges with resilience. Through group discussions, role plays, storytelling, film screenings, and reflection circles, our young changemakers are learning to make informed decisions, manage emotions, and build a community rooted in respect and equality.
As Tarun (Class IX) shared: "If I experience any form of abuse or witness someone else being abused, I will report it by calling the Child Helpline number 1098."
And Roli reminded us: "Boys get more opportunities in our society — but girls deserve equal chances too."
This is exactly what NEP 2020 envisions — education that builds confident, compassionate, and capable individuals, not just knowledge. 📚💡
Our reach so far:
👦👧 169 Children | 🏡 7 Villages | 👦 80 Boys | 👧 89 Girls | 🌟 15 Youth Volunteers
Community Life Skills is not just a programme — it's a movement empowering adolescent to become confident decision-makers, responsible citizens, and leaders of change in their villages.
