This is part of a new song called ‘I becoming You’🪷

As @lovejamcollective, the 5 of us have been playing each other’s songs this year around festivals and at home by the fire when we’re all back in our shared house in Devon. 🏡🍀🌊🌅

I came up with this folky chord progression and melody, then started co-writing the lyrics with Josie.

I mic’d us up and we filmed this in the cosey yurt at @domnuvalley

2 songs from my ‘Americana’ & indie swag phase. Alex G modern cowboy feel, was rinsing MJ Lendermen when I recorded these 2024. Fun fact: I played the drums first with the songs in my head. No click track too for that live feel. Not bad for an English pretender like. Influences are ours to have a new take on always standing on the shoulder of giants.

When I started I enjoyed self producing and hearing my music take shape, but there was always that voice of an imposter in me. It said unless someone with proper credibility produced this song, unless it was made inside walls that count as professional you can’t be taken seriously.
I’ve been demystifying that for myself to understand self production, which I see as a whole holistic art form, for the last decade. The journey has put me into rooms with artists I grew up listening to, songwriting eye to eye with them and producing in studios that they call the ‘real deal’. It all comes back to the same place, and I realise the kid I was who just had enthusiasm and a love for music was always as much a producer than any credit has ever made me.

Through following this passion it’s led to sharing my production workflow with people that want to self produce. To hear their music back with their own taste & control. It’s one of the best ways for creative expression I’ve found and it always seems that recording is a mirror that teaches me something new about myself. When I look back, the hard bit wasn’t even learning to use the tech, it’s been meeting my edges when I hit record and facing the real parts involved in letting the flow state not crumble through self doubt.

Im releasing my music on my own, when I like, because there are no gatekeepers when a lot of the time it seems like there is. Sure, these songs haven’t gone viral, haven’t been placed in huge playlists, but that’s not been my mission and I recently played a song I released 6 years ago and felt such a sense of gratitude that the earlier version of myself didn’t freeze on the upload button and then let it sit in their folder for the next few years.

And now I’m hosting a production camp next week, bringing what I’ve been building to my home and creatively minded community that I’ve shared a space with for the past year in Devon. The retreat has a space or two left for the right people that feel called.

And constantly excited to meet all the self producing artists that join the online mentorships & community hub. Let’s go 🙌 Big dreams for all the creative ripples

It’s been 1 year since my dad transitioned into the great beyond.

This felt like the right time to begin sharing the music that has been written and produced as part of my grieving process.

It’s a real journey track so take your time with it.
