NYC for a night.
5pm arrival. 2am departure. In between: Grabbed a pretzel from a street vendor. Haven’t had one in years. Didn’t quite taste the same. Then the main event, RAYE’s sold out concert at Radio City Music Hall - spectacular! Drive through Times Square to Greenwich Village. Late night pasta dinner at Cafe Reggio.
Even a few hours in NY is fun.

London Fashion Week 2024 #flashbackfridays #FashionFriday - When we went to London last year in September, we were determined to find a fashion show we could attend during London Fashion Week. Enter Silk Road Fashion, London. We bought tickets to their show, which featured British and International designers, at Chelsea Old Town Hall.

Coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula - Exploring the Italian coast of the Sorrento Peninsula was like stepping into someone else’s Instagram feed. Picture perfect, almost unreal. A rugged coastline with dramatic cliffs, winding roads and towns built into the mountainsides. Harbors filled with boats. The Tyrrhenian Sea shifting from cobalt blue to crystalline turquoise, so transparent you could see the pale rock beneath the surface.

Our first pasta meal in Italy - We arrived in Italy on my mother’s birthday, so dinner was on me. We had checked into the hotel and now it was time to check out of our diets. Our B&B host gave us a few restaurant suggestions, including one I had already considered, but I was drawn to the one named Mamma Che Pasta, @mammachepastasorrento. It had the magic word right in the name. While eating salads for weeks before the trip, dreaming of eating my weight in pasta in Italy had kept me motivated. I made sure my mom was on board - a fellow pasta lover, she was.

There was a line outside the restaurant, a good sign. While we waited, we watched the staff make handmade pasta through the front window. Once we were seated, we started out with bruschetta and fresh lemonade. While there were pasta specials, the real fun was in creating your own dish - choose your pasta, sauce and topping. For me, spinach ravioli, lemon sauce and truffle burrata. Lemon sauce was an unusual choice for me, but Sorrento is the land of lemons. Besides, I’d be eating a lot of pasta, so all my hopes weren’t tied to this meal.

The birthday girl opted for something more classic, penne, tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella. Expecting melted cheese, my mother was surprised to see a ball of fresh cheese on our plates. I ate all of mine and part of her’s.

Worried about tomato sauce stains, I’d packed scarves for fashionable protection. No need. They had giant bibs. The lemon tiramisu was sold out, so we shared lemon sorbetto served in a lemon.

The atmosphere was enhanced by covers of populars songs in coffee lounge style. When we heard an Earth, Wind & Fire (my dad’s favorite band) song, we knew he was with us in spirit.

Hotel Mademoiselle - Boutique hotel in Paris, France - We returned to Hotel Mademoiselle for our second trip to Paris last fall. This time the buffet breakfast was included. It wasn’t your usual hotel breakfast. It included fresh squeezed juices and freshly baked pastries. European hotels sometimes include cucumbers, tomatoes, cheeses and meats on their buffets. This was worth getting up for.
This is the hotel we stayed at during our trip to Paris in 2023 also. It is a 4 star boutique hotel in 10th arrondissement near Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. The haute couture decor went with our fashion-themed trip and the staff was friendly and helpful.
