I’ve always loved tea, but I’d never really thought about the women behind it.

During colonial times, women were often chosen for tea picking because of the belief that their “nimble fingers” made them better suited to carefully plucking the delicate leaves.

But this wasn’t just about their hands.

Tea plantations relied heavily on women’s labour, and generations of women have continued doing this work ever since.

Standing here and watching them pick tea by hand made me think about how much of the work behind the things we consume is completely invisible to us.

Kaziranga is one of India’s greatest conservation success stories. Now, a proposed change could reduce the Eco-Sensitive Zone around parts of the park from the current 10 km default to around 1km.
That matters because wildlife doesn’t stop at a park boundary. These surrounding areas are important for movement, habitat and flood escape.

A day with the Tai Khamyang in Assam 🇮🇳💚 I knew very little about the community before coming here.

The Tai Khamyang are one of several Tai communities in Northeast India, with ancestral roots in the region of present-day Myanmar. Their history is also closely connected with the wider history of the Tai peoples and the Ahom kingdom.

I spent the day learning about their homes, food, handloom traditions and Buddhism. Mostly, I just enjoyed being welcomed into their everyday life.

Food. Family. Conversation. Learning.

No rushing. No checklist.

Just a quiet day in a part of India I knew very little about.

I’ll be honest, I was surprised by how crowded parts of Himachal were, and by how some of these beautiful places were being treated. Then I went a little off-grid and found a completely different side of Himachal.

A quiet village. Slow mornings. Mountain views. Space to actually listen to the birds and enjoy where I was.

It made me think about how we travel. We don’t always need bigger hotels, louder parties or more people. Sometimes the best way to experience a place is to slow down, stay local, and leave it as beautiful as you found it.
