The Patina Art Residency returns for its second year with Rooted Realms, inviting leading galleries and patrons to nominate existing works by artists whose practice speaks to place, identity, impact and sustainability. Presented with LUX and Quartet, the residency brings together galleries, jurors, artists and Patina destinations in a shared exchange between art, hospitality and place. This Octoer, Jeremy Elkin will be conducting his second Patina Listening Session.
A filmmaker, photographer, music curator, and founder of @9mtokyo, Jeremy has spent years sourcing rare vintage jazz records and curating listening experiences with Devon Turnbull’s OJAS in New York and Tokyo. 
In this new series, Jeremy will spotlight a different iconic record label or artist each month, sharing selections from his personal collection of rare vintage pressings alongside the stories, history, and musical legacy behind them. 
Our second installment highlights Donald Byrd discography, a trumpet-playing pioneer of the jazz/ funk fusion movement, presented in the immersive Listening Room by OJAS.

SASHIKO GALS × KUON × Patina. A collaboration bringing the handwork of Otsuchi into a new collection created exclusively for Patina, launching 16 September at Patina Osaka, with Patina Maldives to follow. At the heart of the collection are @sashiko_gals, a group of women in Otsuchi, Iwate, whose practice grew from the Otsuchi Sashiko Project established after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Their sashiko stitching runs across every piece by hand, with variations that make each bucket hat and sacoche unique. Meet SASHIKO GALS. Based in Otsuchi, Iwate, the collective brings together women in their 40s to 80s, each practising sashiko by hand. Their work has developed alongside @kuon_tokyo_official, which brings the craft into contemporary fashion and new collaborations. The relationship goes back to the Otsuchi Sashiko Project, established after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Over the years, the women kept building their skill, while KUON helped create new ways for that work to travel beyond Otsuchi. In 2024, the project became SASHIKO GALS. From 16 September, the collection will be available at Patina Osaka, followed by Patina Maldives at a later date and Patina Tianjin upon its opening. by @patinaosaka
