Wanted to share a little behind the scenes of the process and making of my new work SAUNIGA, that premiered at Manchester International Festival 🇬🇧 FALE SĀ | Sacred House

Past 3 years I’ve been interested in Animals in Samoan Lore, in our chants, proverbs, songs, Fāgogo and Tala Tu’u. This new work is the first manifestation of the research and ideas, excited to bring this home to Aotearoa one day.

E sui faiga ae tumau fa’avae. - The form changes, but the underlying principles remain.

Commissioned by the Manchester International Festival, SAUNIGA saw lead FAFSWAG artist Apulu Pati Tyrell present a work-in-progress sharing for @asiatopa in Naarm Australia. Our work was presented in partnership with the @artscentremelbourne with support from @creativenz.

We’re grateful to the communities of Naarm who came out to support, witness and share in talanoa of SAUNIGA. Thank you to our incredible cast @penifakaua and @jaycee_babyyy, we’re excited to be on this journey with you both. Thank you to our sound designer @graysongilmour and lighting designer @joshieharriette for your generous contributions.

Thank you to AsiaTOPA director @jeffy_k for supporting the development, we’re privileged to have your years of support. “The More We Get Together” publication was launched last Friday in Singapore, which feature works I collaborated on with @arullsha @secretmelur

The More We Get Together celebrates Singapore’s 60 years of diplomatic relations with 13 nations. This future-oriented publication by @globalculturalalliance focuses on person-to-person connections, demonstrated through creative collaborations between creatives from 13 countries and their Singaporean counterparts. Together, they explore diverse responses to the question: What is our shared vision for the next 60 years of relations between Singapore and its friends? by @patityrell
