“Being a creature of dynamic expression, I love to embellish myself with colour, pattern, while finding simplicity in my style for the day. When I'm getting a look together, I seek satisfying textures, shapes that honor my fluid sense of gender, and elements that remind me of being part of nature. There's always a sense of play involved with how I present myself because life is short! Why not embrace fashion that celebrates how I see myself? Pattern Nation designer @costabesta shares his thoughts about his colourful esthetic and creative practice. Costa & @cydeva worked together in their home studio in Coquitlam BC to cut and sew this collection of jumpsuits from dead stock and surplus fabrics sourced in Canada and South Africa. “Coming from South Africa there are various types of fabrics that have happy patterns and colours in our culture. I was drawn to fashion from an early age and I always had ideas of how I wanted to dress myself. I created a clothing label with a friend in South Africa focusing on colour blocking and bold prints and that's when my passion started to really kick in. Cydney’s @cydeva interactive BLOB art installation has seen action from London to South Africa, Montreal to Vancouver Island. But they’d yet to encounter school groups! With Over 900 kids on the first day of the @vankidsfest @pattern.nation went into action and after 30 hours of combined creativity made 5 new blobs made from off cuts from Pattern Nation clothing and repaired the rest on site. All ready for kids enjoyment the last school day and the weekend of family fun to come ! We’re so happy they are a huge hit❣️ #kidsfest #kidsfestival #creativeplay #upcycling by @pattern.nation
