It’s finally crunchy leaf season here in the PNW, and I could not possibly be happier about it! In preparation, I’ve acquired a new camera…that I’ve actually had before and sold (an unfortunate mistake haha).

So, I present to you, my first posted work from my Fujifilm X-T4! Much more to come, as I am back in my take-my-camera-with-me-everywhere era.

I forgot how magical Fuji’s colors are, and I’m very happy to be “back in the fold”, so to speak.

The first of at least two posts from The Big Thing, put on by @xoverland!

I'll shoot straight with you — I barely picked up my camera this weekend. However, I now know how to perform critical first aid, air down/up and patch/repair tires, drive off-road properly (regardless of vehicle type), plan expeditions, navigate without GPS, observe and scout roads and terrain from a distance, and more!

As a landscape photographer who loves getting out and discovering wild places, vehicle-based adventure (aka "overlanding") is a natural fit — and I have many thoughts to share on that, perhaps in future posts. Anyway, these three photos were the best from the weekend, with the Milky Way from our campsite being my personal favourite. It was a wonderful time filled with lots of learning and loads of connections and conversations with amazing people!

#1 — The Milky Way from camp at the XO Ranch.
#2 — A bird's-eye view of camp, "The Hub," and the Missouri River from the highest point on the ranch.
#3 — My favourite sunset cloud photo from the trip.

Took a trip to Lake Cushman over the 4th of July weekend, and instead of having my 5D glued to my hand like I thought I was going to…I ended up shooting more on my iPhone 16 Pro, than I did my actual camera!

They say that the best camera is the one you always have with you, and I guess that really is true. I’ve given iPhones a lot of crap for their images quality… but these turned out better than I thought they would!

It’s been a while since my last post… sorry about that. 😅 But I'm back with some new photos for your feed!

I’ve been playing with a new suite of photo software from @dxolabs, and it’s really cool stuff! I’ll have more content coming soon as I learn and master these tools.

Mt. Rainier never disappoints. These photos were from an adventure day around Skate Creek Rd. + Stevens Canyon - and shoutout to my wife for having the eagle eyes that spotted that Barred Owl! 🦉

Processed with DxO PureRAW & Nik Collection 9

I guess I’m continuing my sunset kick!

I snagged these off our back deck (a place that is quickly becoming a favourite spot of mine in the evenings for this exact reason 😁) I’m thinking I’ll start doing some content that breaks down how I shoot clouds and sunsets!

One little tip, for now, is to use longer focal lengths. This allows you to isolate different clouds and little pockets of light to make some really interesting images, while also making it easier to get unwanted elements (buildings, cell-towers, power lines etc) out of your frame.

These were both shot between 100-200mm, using my @canonusa 5D Mk IV and EF 70-200 f/4.

If y’all remember a few weeks back when I made a post about going to the Point Defiance Zoo…well, we went with some good friends of ours, and I shot a few portraits while we were there!

These didn’t fit in well with the main zoo post, so I’m posting them now. 😁

Excited for what this year has in store for Justin & Julia 👀🫢❤️

Safe to say, it’s actual proper spring time here in the PNW and that means family photo season is in full swing! 🌿

Shot this set of photos for some friends of ours, and I think they turned out so well!

I’m ready and available for more of these, so if you or anyone you know is interested, hit me up! Would love you get you on my schedule 😊

P.S. You’re definitely going to want to scroll all the way to the last photo…🥹

Every once in awhile I go through a phase where I really enjoy shooting with older, cheaper, much more manual cameras. These two sunset shots are from just such a phase.

Are they technically perfect? No.
Could a lot be done to “improve” them? Yeah, I suppose so.
Do I really like them anyway? Definitely.

It’s just a really engaging and fun experience, and I’d recommend it to everyone!

Shot with: @canonusa EOS 20D and a no name brand manual 50mm f/1.7.

I’ve been on a kick lately of taking only the essentials with me when I go places. In this case, the place was the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium…and the essentials in question were my Canon 5D Mark IV and a 50mm f/1.8. No zoom lenses, no tripod, no filters or remote triggers… just my 50, and my feet. It’s an oddly freeing experience, and I recommend it!

Visited the @ptdefiancezoo with some friends a couple weeks ago. I hadn’t been to a zoo since I was a kid, so it was fun to have that experience again for a couple hours! 🐯🐧🐻‍❄️

If you’re in the area, I’d recommend this place. It’s a good time if you bring some friends along! 😊

The 3rd and final part of my Ocean Shores post series.

These photos are a couple that I really loved, but couldn’t make fit in with the other two posts. I love the grass in the foreground of the first shot, the log on the ground, and the sand leading the eye to the payoff of the sky - and my wife and mother-in-law walking on the beach! The second image is just a fern… nothing special, but the play of the sunlight through the leaves, causing interesting patterns of light and shadow, really tickles my brain for some reason. 😊

Took my new @militadowatches ML08 field watch for a proper adventure. Water, Sand, Dirt… this little watch simply didn’t care, and kept right on ticking! Measuring in at 38mm case diameter with 316L Stainless Steel case, screw-down crown, case-back, a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and a Seiko VH31 quartz movement, this field watch has been an excellent addition to my small collection. I think a dive watch is up next!

Oh, and if you’re wondering, I’m just a nerd...this post is not sponsored, lol.
