GRATEFUL!!!

As we celebrate International Women’s Month – March 2026, I am choosing to reflect with gratitude for the incredible women who have been part of my journey — family, friends, colleagues, and associates.

Meaningful quote: 'When we invest in women's health, we invest in every future she can create...'

It was truly inspiring to attend the Luminaries Luncheon – Lighting the Way: From Lab to Life on Friday, March 6, 2026. The event, hosted by the @abwomenshealthfoundation Alberta Women's Health Foundation, focused on advancing research and innovation in women’s health.

I was especially enlightened by the “Power of Proof Panel: From Evidence to Economic Impact”, featuring Dr. Tibetha Kenmbles (Stonechild), Dr. May Sanaee, Dr. Sofia Ahmed, and Dr. Marie-Renée B-Lajoie. Their discussion highlighted the importance of translating research into meaningful impact for women’s health.

The powerful keynote presentation by @rachelmielke101 Rachel Mielke, CEO and Founder of @hillbergandberk , was a beautiful reminder of how precious life is and why prioritizing our health matters. A special necklace was created by Hillberg & Berk to commemorate the day (see photo).

Sharing this experience with my dear Patient Partners, @lydiamirriam Lydia Sadiq and Sarah Chambers @sarah.skc , made the day even more meaningful. It was also wonderful reconnecting with my friend Samantha Alexander @misssamanthaalexander

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Donna Vine, Dr. Mahua Ghosh, and the PCOS Together team at the University of Alberta for making our attendance possible.

Connecting both professionally and personally with so many inspiring individuals left me feeling energized and excited to support this important work wherever I can.

Moving to Canada I have to admit I couldn’t relate to Black history month. It all came together this past weekend through an immersive storytelling session with @donnacm5681 - historian Laureate and the stage play that followed.

It really grounded me in the reality and lived experiences on black people in North America : specifically Caribbean oil workers in Alberta, Canada. It was also my first time at the @royal_alberta_museum.

This video was an interview with Paula Beckles - health care worker and wife of an oil worker who also starred in the stage play.

On February 03, 1914, Charles Daniels, a black sleeper car manager for CP Rail was denied entry at the then Sherman Grand Theatre, despite having tickets for orchestra level tickets to see the play King Lear. Daniels later sued the Grand along with its owner Senator Lougheed and manager Sherman. This was the first civil rights case tried in Canada, decades before the movement took hold in the US.

On February 3, 2026, more than 100 years later, to commemorate his bravery and in honour of him, the renamed Grand Theatre commissioned a permanent designated seat for Mr Daniels in the theatre, in the exact spot that he had tickets for. They will also be launching a Charles Daniels Fund, marking the occasion with spoken word, dance (including tap) and jazz.
