The proximity between the tech industry and authoritarian politics cannot be explained by ideology alone. This lecture reads it as a question of architecture. It asks which theories, forms and images prepared this proximity and made it thinkable. One line runs from German media theory through Nick Land and neoreaction to Silicon Valley. Another reaches back to the avant-gardes that anticipated the rituals of fascism. What art has to answer for, and what it can do about it, emerges from historical strata between Futurism and post-internet art and from the counter-strata of cyberfeminism. Countercultural techniques are already being developed, but this has to be a shared effort.

Paul Feigelfeld is a cultural and media scholar. After studying Cultural Studies and Computer Science in Berlin, he held various positions at the Centre for Digital Cultures Lüneburg, the Art University and the University of Basel, the Strelka Institute Moscow, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and the University of Vienna. From 2021 to 2024, he held the professorship for Knowledge Cultures in the Digital Age at the Institute for Design Research at Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) and is a Visiting Professor at the Chair of Media Theories at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Lagebesprechung #02 vom 28. Mai im HGM: „ANGRIFF. Playbooks und Technologien der Machtübernahme"

Gemeinsam mit unseren Gästen wurde darüber diskutiert, wie Angriffe auf Demokratie, demokratische Institutionen und der Griff nach der Macht organisiert werden.

Nach 1945 entsteht die sogenannte Kybernetik als Friedenswissenschaft als Antwort auf die verheerenden Zerstörungen durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg. Dies hat eine beispiellose technische Entwicklung in den 1950er bis 1970er Jahren zur Folge – das Silicon Valley etwa entsteht. In seinem Vortrag spricht @paulfeigelfeld unter anderem über die Entstehung des Internets als Ideologie der Demokratisierung und Freiheit, das zeitgleiche Wirken des Unabombers und die theoretische Strömung des „Dark Enlightenments“ als Idee einer
Gegenaufklärung, die gerade im Silicon Valley auf große Resonanz stößt.
