Most of Appalachian History isn’t in museums. Treasures of long ago sit inside peoples homes in the heirlooms passed down from generation to generation.

A new series called Appalachian Antiques & Artifacts is coming to @pbsappalachia !

I finished filming my segments today with Julie Newman and some other great folks at the studio at the @hrhcbristol

I had an absolute blast! The stories, the artifacts, and the people behind them are what make Appalachia such a special place. Thank you to everyone who made me feel so welcome. It was a pleasure spending the day with folks who are as passionate about Appalachian history as I am.

I'm so happy and beyond thrilled that our short film about @appalachiapress won TWO Emmys tonight. I'm first of all, so grateful to @jacobdellinger and @curt_schruth for lending their beautiful cinematography to this story, and to John Reburn for inviting us into his space and letting us tell a small part of his journey as a printmaker. @pbsappalachia is first and foremost a station that exists to uplift the stories of SW Virginia, and that's exactly the driving force behind this short film.

I'm eternally grateful to those in leadership at PBS Appalachia and Blue Ridge PBS who encourage and nurture the creative spirit within us, and equip us to go out and be the tellers and keepers of the stories. None of this would be possible without the amazing leadership team who encourage us to go forth and make cool things.

So let's keep doing that 🔥🚀 You'll see so much from us this year, and I can't wait to show you what we're cooking up! by @pbsappalachia

It Started with a Snurfer…and Changed Winter Forever!

The Emmy Award-winning team at PBS Appalachia is proud to announce our newest documentary, Surfing the Snow: The Untold Story of the Snurfer, premiering in 2027! Before there was snowboarding, there was the Snurfer, born more than 60 years ago in Muskegon, Michigan and manufactured in Marion, Virginia, sparking a movement that transformed winter sports.

Watch the first official teaser now, and then tell us: Did you ever ride a Snurfer? Share your memories, photos, and stories in the comments; we may feature them as we bring this incredible story to life! by @pbsappalachia
