Came down from my literal mountaintop experience just in time to attend Washington Bach Consort's Season Opener! Always a joy to run into one of Our premiere cellists Wade Davis who plays with the ensemble. But did you know he plays harpsichord and violin too? Amazing! by @pdm06

It was very important to me to have my dear Winchester friends Deva and Beanz present as I received my award. They represent a beautiful friendship that I had with "Nana" Linda Brooks when I was in grad school. It meant the world to me that they were there. by @pdm06

On Friday, October 2, 2026 it was my greatest joy to return to my graduate school alma mater Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement during the annual Homecoming Festivities. Introduced and lauded so eloquently by Shenandoah University Alumni Association President Nicole Davis I followed with my remarks that I hope captured the love and appreciation for all those who have been on this journey with me. You will hear me lift up several names from the various communities of my life that continue to sustain me.

An added bonus to my @shenandoahuniversity 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award was being recognized on the field during half-time at the Homecoming Game and sitting in The President's Box! Shenandoah truly rolled out the red carpet for me and I will always remember this honor!

Do you all remember me mentioning my childhood conductor Cathy Chamblee @chamc_60 who led The Petersburg Festival Chorus? That was our local choral society and I cut my teeth with the major works in this group. The long time publisher of our local newspaper The Progress Index, the late George Fain even sang bass in the chorus. We recently reconnected and she sent me this 1995 portrait of the chorus we took at Trinity United Methodist Church. It's so timely, because this weekend I am going to hear the Washington Bach Consort perform among other cantatas perform Bach's Cantata 140 "Wachet Auf." We sang that with orchestra at Walnut Hill Baptist Church. I love when I can correlate these performances with memorable experiences that I had in my hometown. I also sang in this group under Tim Gilham @singintim and Donald Anderson. We sang glorious music in this group! Can you spot me? I am 3rd from the right on the back row. There were only a few Black singers in this group and they were trailblazers! Shoutout to Eugene Vango, RIP: Yvonne "Blaine" Peterson and Delia Robinson.

And I cant make this post without mentioning my girl, the late soprano diva Kathleen Kirkpatrick who brought me into the wings of The Parish Choir at Christ and Grace on the 4th from the left front row. by @pdm06

Good Morning! Rise and shine! Happy 1st Day of October! This is such a special month for so many reasons! I have been back many times to Shenandoah to serve, but this Friday represents such a full circle moment having auditioning there for grad school 21 years ago and now representing Shenandoah Conservatory, returning to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. I remain grateful to my village that has supported me all these years. by @pdm06

I will never forget that infectious laugh! This was when I greeted legendary soprano #jessyenorman at a wonderful breakfast where she was honored with the Medal of Arts by Washington Performing Arts Society at the Hay-Adams Hotel. Remember her passing 7 years ago. Continue to rest in peace. by @pdm06
