River cruise or small-ship ocean cruise? I start with the kind of day you want—not simply the size of the vessel.

I compare four things: daily rhythm, scenery, port style, and onboard atmosphere. River cruises can offer close-up shoreline views and port-focused days, while small-ship ocean cruises may include open-water sailing, coastal or island calls, and more variation between port time and time at sea. The exact experience always depends on the itinerary and ship.

That distinction matters because two intimate ships can still create very different vacations. If you want scenery close by and frequent transitions into port, I may lean toward a river itinerary. If ocean horizons, varied coastlines, and a balance of sailing and exploring appeal to you, I may look at small-ship ocean options.

I don’t judge a private transfer by price alone—I judge it by how much travel friction it removes.

I’m more likely to recommend one when you have several heavy bags, arrive late or after a long flight, travel with multiple adults, or face an unfamiliar route with several connections. For a simple daytime trip with light luggage and a direct train, taxi, rideshare, or shuttle, I may suggest keeping it simple and saving the upgrade for elsewhere.

The right choice can affect more than comfort. It can mean fewer decisions while tired, less luggage handling, and an easier transition between the airport, hotel, or next city.

🇬🇷 The Acropolis is incredible. But HOW you experience it makes all the difference.

We visited just a few hours before closing on a beautiful fall afternoon in Athens, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Lighter crowds, beautiful views, and an opportunity to experience one of the world’s most iconic historical sites without feeling rushed. ☀️

For a shorter France itinerary, I usually recommend choosing one countryside experience: either a well-planned day trip from Paris or one nearby overnight base. The best choice depends on total trip length, train or private-transfer logistics, and whether the priority is vineyards, villages, gardens, or château time.

That restraint creates contrast without fragmentation. Travelers can enjoy Parisian cafés and museums, then slow down in a quieter landscape, while avoiding repeated packing, check-ins, and lost sightseeing hours.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful event at The Cooking School at Ninety Acres at Natirar, where an exceptional meal was paired with an exciting look at the future of one of South Florida’s standout luxury beachfront resorts.

Formerly known as Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, the property is entering an exciting new era following its change in ownership.

And the enhancements sound beautiful!
