💔🐬 HEARTBREAKING NEWS: MELON-HEADED WHALES SLAUGHTERED IN TAIJI, JAPAN, AS TWO CALVES ARE SEPARATED FROM THEIR FAMILY

A devastating dolphin hunt unfolded yesterday after hunters intercepted a large pod of melon-headed whales, separating approximately 20 individuals from the larger group and drove them into the notorious Cove. 💔

According to @dolphin_project, the adults were restrained by their tails beneath tarps while two young calves were forcibly separated from their family, placed into slings alongside a small boat, and taken back out to sea without any adults to accompany them.

In a heartbreaking statement, Dolphin Project reported:

“The hope is that they are able to reunite with the rest of their pod but it’s impossible to know what actually happened. The adults were all slaughtered. Their lifeless bodies were then dragged to the butcher house.”

The fate of the two calves remains unknown, raising serious concerns about their ability to survive without the protection and guidance of their family.

Despite their name, melon-headed whales are actually members of the oceanic dolphin family. These highly social marine mammals live in close-knit groups and depend on strong social bonds.

The heartbreaking separation of the two young calves from their family, followed by the slaughter of the adults, is another devastating reminder of the suffering inflicted on these intelligent, sensitive animals during Taiji’s annual dolphin hunts.

World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals continue to condemn these cruel hunts and call for an end to the capture and slaughter of dolphins and whales in Taiji, Japan. 💔🐬🐋

🚨🐎 BREAKING: NEW YORK CITY MOVES TO BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES AS COUNCIL SCHEDULES OCTOBER 22 VOTE!

New York City is moving closer to ending its controversial horse-drawn carriage industry following years of advocacy and growing concerns over animal welfare and public safety.

On October 22, the City Council will vote on Romanch’s Law, which would ban horse-drawn carriage operations beginning June 1, 2028.

The proposed ban follows the tragic death of 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan in a runaway carriage incident in Central Park. Just eight days earlier, a carriage horse named Deniz collapsed and died in the park. 💔

If passed, the legislation would establish protections for carriage horses, including restrictions on their sale or transfer for slaughter, and assistance with humane placement.

📢 @nyclass has announced a public rally on Thursday, October 15, at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of New York City Hall, where further details about the proposed ban will be shared.

VICTORY FOR WILDLIFE! 💛🐾

On October 9, South Africa’s Constitutional Court unanimously dismissed a challenge by the South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association to overturn animal well-being protections.

The outcome preserves requirements to consider animals’ health and quality of life in decisions affecting wildlife, along with the government’s powers to develop further welfare measures.

The Court declined to overlook the hunting association’s two-year delay in bringing the case. The NSPCA and EMS Foundation Trust opposed the challenge, and the association was ordered to pay their legal costs. ⚖️

Unfortunately, this does not end hunting, but it keeps important protections in place. 🙏

🐺❤️ HOPEFUL UPDATE: ALL MEMBERS OF YELLOWSTONE’S MOLLIES PACK REPORTED ALIVE, INCLUDING 1090F

Female 1590F has taken over as the Mollies pack’s dominant female, according to an update shared by @jonas.black. The wolves, including their pups, are currently safe within Yellowstone National Park, and 1090F remains with them.

“I’ve only seen Mollies pack a few times. At 12 years old, 1090F is part of an extraordinary legacy, the longest-running wolf pack currently in Yellowstone. We must protect these wolves so her legacy can live on for generations to come,” Brian Burrus (@brianburrusphotography) told WAN.

“We couldn’t be more proud to have stood by Wyoming Game and Fish throughout this process. We remained in contact with their wildlife biologists the entire time, and I’m grateful for their work and communication,” @jonas.black shared in a post.

This is welcome news. World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals hope this beloved pack remains protected, with their pups able to grow up alongside their family in the wild. 🙏💛🐺

🚨GOVERNOR DESANTIS WARNS PET OWNERS AS HURRICANE ISAIAS APPROACHES FLORIDA’S PANHANDLE 🌀

As Hurricane Isaias threatens Florida’s Panhandle and portions of the Gulf Coast with destructive winds, dangerous storm surges, and potentially life-threatening flooding, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a strong warning during a hurricane briefing on Friday, October 9.

“My message to people with pets is you better treat them properly, and if you don’t, if you abuse one of these pets, if you leave them in the path of a hurricane, you will be held accountable,” DeSantis stated.

The governor also emphasized the availability of emergency shelters for people evacuating with their animals.

“We have pet friendly shelters. Every county has a pet friendly shelter,” he stated.

DeSantis further stressed the responsibility pet owners have to protect their animals during emergencies, adding:

“They need you and you have a responsibility to take care of them.”

DeSantis also referenced Trooper’s Law, enacted following the abandonment of Trooper, a dog tied to a fence along a Florida highway during Hurricane Milton in 2024.

❤️🐾 World Animal News and Peace 4 Animals urge everyone in affected areas to protect themselves and their animals during this dangerous hurricane. If you must evacuate, please take your pets with you and make arrangements to ensure the safety of all animals in your care.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the hurricane’s path. Please stay safe! 🙏✝️
