Stop putting a ceiling on your potential. 🚀

I had a conversation today with a potential student who had already convinced herself that a grade 6 probably wasn’t realistic.

It reminded me of this student.

He started with a grade 3, hoping for a 5 and perhaps dreaming of a 6/7 💭

He finished with a Grade 7. 💥

That’s why at Peak Potential, we don’t put a limit or a number on what you can achieve. ⛰️

And the results back it up: 92% of the students we worked with last year surpassed their target grade, meaning Kaylan’s story is just one of many.

So if you’ve already decided what your “maximum” is…

Maybe it’s time to think bigger.

📩 DM “POTENTIAL” to find out what you could achieve with the right support.

👋 A little introduction...

If you’re new around here, welcome! 👋

I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself.

I’m Mark Matthews, a PE teacher, academic PE tutor, qualified neurodevelopment coach, and the founder of Peak Potential. That was a mouthful! 😅

For over 10 years, I’ve worked in education, supporting teenagers both academically and personally, and Peak Potential has grown from that experience.

I specialise in GCSE and A Level PE, helping students build their knowledge, improve their exam technique and, most importantly, develop the confidence to believe they can achieve more.

I’m also passionate about helping young people develop the skills they need beyond the classroom including confidence, resilience, mindset and emotional wellbeing.

Alongside 1-to-1 tutoring and coaching, I create knowledge-driven, science-backed resources and run online workshops designed to make those complex PE topic’s easier to understand, revise and apply in exams.

But for me, it’s not just about the results.

Of course, we celebrate the grades, the wins and the achievements, and rightly so. But what I enjoy most is the journey it takes to get there.

The difficult assessments. The moments when things don’t quite click. The setbacks, frustrations and doubts. And then seeing young people keep going, build their confidence, overcome those challenges and develop the resilience to keep improving.

That part is often the real highlight.

Because behind every result is a journey, and I’m proud to be able to support students through that process.

That’s what Peak Potential is all about not just achieving better results, but helping young people develop the confidence and resilience to reach their potential.

So, whether you’re a parent looking for academic PE support, a student preparing for your exams, or you’ve simply recently discovered the page...

Welcome! It’s great to have you here. 😊

As results have been released, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate what my students have achieved this year.

Whilst the grades are something to be proud of, they only tell part of the story.

Many of my students started with a lack of confidence, struggled to apply their knowledge to exam questions, or weren’t sure how to structure their answers effectively.

Through personalised 1-to-1 support, we worked on their individual weaknesses, built confidence, and developed the skills they needed to succeed.

And the students deserve enormous credit. They asked questions, made mistakes, acted on feedback, revisited challenging topics and, most importantly, kept going.

📈 100% achieved Grade 4+
🌟 92% surpassed the grade they were achieving when they started

I’m incredibly proud of these student results, but even more proud of the confidence I’ve seen them develop.

Because tutoring isn’t just about achieving a better grade. It’s about helping students believe: “I can do this.”

To every student I’ve worked with this year, well done!Your hard work has paid off. 👏🏼

And to anyone considering additional support for the new academic year, remember: where you start doesn’t have to determine where you finish.

Ever said something in an argument and regretted it straight away? Frozen in an exam you’d revised for? Lost it over a referee’s decision? 🐒

That wasn’t really you. That was your chimp.
Everyone has one, even Olympic champions. Your chimp isn’t the enemy. It’s trying to protect you. It just tends to overreact.

Your mind has three parts:
🧠 The Human: the real you. Calm and logical, but needs a moment to catch up.
🐒 The Chimp: your emotional side. Fast, strong, and acts first.
💻 The Computer: your memory and habits. Runs on autopilot.

This is why teenage chimps are so loud. Your limbic system, where the chimp lives, is fully switched on in your teens. Your prefrontal cortex, the thinking part, is still catching up. (Remember box breathing? That’s one way to give it time to step in.)

Big reactions are normal, and they’re trainable. 💪

💬 Comment CHIMP and I’ll send you my free 3-second chimp check guide.

🧘‍♂️ Can you touch your toes? 👀

The sit and reach test is a must-know for GCSE PE! In this video I break down what it measures (flexibility of the hamstrings and lower back), how to carry it out properly, and the evaluative points to consider when tackling exam questions on athlete suitability, validity and reliability. ✅

From a Grade 3 in his first mock to a Grade 7 in the real thing 📈

Kaylan started GCSE PE late. He missed the whole first term and had to play catch-up from day one. His goal was a 7, but in his own words it felt “more like a dream”. Realistically he was hoping for a 5 or 6.

Over the year we worked on:

✅ Catching up on all the missed content and making it stick

✅ Visual demos and drawings to finally crack planes and axes

✅ Simple acronyms for levers, so he could answer them quickly in the exam

✅ Exam technique: understanding AO1, AO2 and AO3 and what each command word asks for

✅ Saving time on the short questions to plan stronger 6 and 9 mark answers

The support didn’t stop when the session ended. He messaged with questions between sessions and acted on feedback. This proactive approach helped him achieve the result.

The result? “In the results, I actually did get a 7!” 🙌 Now he’s studying A Level PE and our work together continues, and to build on this he recently achieved two A* in his October mocks. 👏🏼

📚 If you’d like results like Kaylan and are considering additional support for this academic year, remember: where you start doesn’t have to determine where you finish.

2️⃣ Type of contraction as the weights are lowered? (Careful, there’s a trap 👀)
3️⃣ Class of lever at the elbow?
4️⃣ Plane AND axis?
5️⃣ Main agonist at the shoulder?

⭐ Bonus: why does the lever system seem in this video have a mechanical disadvantage?

Answers will be revealed in the comments, so commit to yours first!

🏉 Across most team sports, home sides win more often. 👀

The Rugby League World Cup kicks off today in Australia 🇦🇺. Packed stadiums, a home nation and huge pressure on every player.

But here’s the sport psychology twist 👇
A loud crowd can lift an expert to a career-best performance… and make a beginner completely fall apart. Same crowd, opposite outcome. 🤯

Swipe to find out:
1️⃣ Why home advantage is real
2️⃣ How social facilitation works
3️⃣ What drive theory says about experts vs beginners
4️⃣ Why feeling judged matters more than the noise
5️⃣ How away teams beat a hostile crowd

📚 Links to GCSE & A-level PE: sport psychology, arousal, social facilitation and inhibition, and evaluation apprehension.

💬 YOUR TURN: Why might a home crowd help an expert but hurt a beginner? Drop your answer below 👇

From a consistent Grade 7 to a high Grade 8, just 6 marks off a 9 📈

When we started working together, her subject knowledge was already strong. What held her back was the longer 6 and 9 mark questions: structuring answers, reading the command words, and adding the AO2 and AO3 depth examiners reward.

Over the year we worked on:

✅ Breaking down exactly how marks are awarded
✅ Understanding command words, so she answered the question actually asked
✅ Building the habit of asking “why?” to develop every point
✅ Linking theory to real-life examples to make it stick
✅ Revisiting content regularly, so there was no last-minute cramming

Namrita achieved a 6 in her Paper 2 mock, then went on to get a high grade 8 in the real exam. In her words: “I didn’t actually run out of points… I didn’t really have to cram the night before because I was so prepared.” 🙌

If you’d like to be in Namrita’s position this time next year… DM me to find out more. 📥
