I’m not sure how it’s possibly but Mason is already in his 3rd week of Kindergarten. 📚✏️✂️🚌

There have been MANY amazing things happening in this short period of time but Mason has hit 2 HUGE MILESTONES - not inchstones- MILESTONES!!!

1. Mason went pee-pee on the potty - not only once, but twice! Like what?!? Never in a million years should I think this would happen so soon! 🚽🧻

2. Mason was able to eat on-the-go! Mason is 100% G-Tube Fed which usually means he’s sits in a supportive chair for the 45 minutes his feed is running. His amazing teachers put his feeding pump in a special backpack, which allowed him to play while he was eating. This is HUGE for right now and for his future.

To say we are so incredibly happy about this program is an understatement! Mason is LOVING school - he’s THRIVING and Matt and I are two VERY HAPPY parents!

Monica and I met just after our boys were born at Bellevue Hospital in the NICU.! We never expected to be there. It was a club we were inducted into and not by choice!

These nurses rallied around our boys and our families! They saved our boys lives – and ours too! They taught us things. We never thought we would have to know. There arms embraced us in the deepest hugs and their shoulders caught our tears and fears too!

These nurses are angels on earth, they do God‘s work! That’s why Monica and I deliver coffee on this day every year! No words will ever be enough to thank them for what they did for us, but year after year we keep showing up to let them know how grateful we are for them.

It’s time for the @rodsheroes Saturday Spotlight! This is Mason! His mom says-

“He is five years old and undoubtably the bravest, strongest and most joyful person I’ve ever known!

Mason has had quite the journey of Medical complexities in his short life. At birth he spent 33 days in the NICU - later to be 100% G-Tube dependent. At four months old he was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a rare form of epilepsy and then at 10 months old, diagnosed with chronic respiratory failure which continues to be our biggest challenge today!

Mason has continued to show us the true meaning of perseverance, strength, and bravery. He meets every day with a smile and the sheer determination to work hard and fight hard for everyday.

Mason really enjoys swimming in his new pool, riding his new Rifton trike and spending time outside. He LOVES all music and singing familiar songs makes him light up with joy and excitement.

He is such a bright light in our world! His smile and laugh are incredibly contagious, and his hugs and kisses can melt anyone’s heart instantly. He’s taught us to slow down and to have patience in the simplest of moments. He’s taught us that being different is not less - it’s just different and that in it of itself is just beautiful!”
