A week ago Feral Vices put out our new record, Human Error. We’ve spent the past couple of record cycles trying to find our sound and make this two-piece thing work. We made a lot of music we’re very proud of and had a lot of fun on the journey, but we always felt like our live sound never quite translated to the records.

Once we figured out how to be a two-piece live, the one piece of feedback we consistently got at shows was: “Man, I love your records, but you sound so much better and bigger live.” We heard many variations of that over the past couple of years. We set out to capture that exact feeling with Human Error. And I truly believe we did.

I’m so thankful for the team behind Human Error:

Dom Maduri for helping us capture what makes us, us. He killed it with the mixing and engineering on this record. Truly. I have also thought about the snare I used on this record almost every day.

Carson Pace for helping me bring the interludes to life. It’s always been a goal of mine to make a concept record, and he absolutely nailed it.

James Wightman for being the absolute GOAT and creating some of the coolest artwork we’ve ever had. Each cover art piece is a wonder on its own, and they come together beautifully.

Jon Markson for the incredible masters. Every record that man touches sounds great.

Clay Nevels for absolutely ripping it in Bleed. Please go check out his projects, Foxbat and GVUP if you haven’t yet.

Last, but not least, Alex. I’m so grateful to be doing this thing with you, and thank you for trusting me with the creative vision of this record. I just kept adding onto ideas and you just went with it.

Music is cool. Art is cool. Making art with friends is cool.

Music is political. Art is political. They always have been. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for reading.

Long time and good time homies @feralvices hit me up about a year ago with a concept record EP idea that they wanted a world of artwork for. I went on a lot of walks around the neighborhood listening to the demos and trying to conceptualize where to head with this, and here’s where we landed.

EP artwork and 5 singles, all cut out from vintage Nat Geo magazines and scanned in. Human, ambitious, flawed and imperfect, and imo beautiful. Thanks to all the friends that cut stuff out of magazines during the Super Bowl earlier this year, and thanks to @insta_hoagie and @peannuttt___ for the trust and being awesome collaborators. Go give their new EP a listen it’s fucking badass. by @peannuttt___

Today we put out a new song, This Is War. This is my favorite song we have written as a band, but not my favorite one I’ve written drum wise. That’s up next 👀

Fun fact: originally the bridge was open, just guitar and drums. But from the studio, to mixing, to right before mastering, I kept hearing a space that needed to be filled. I found this clip from FDR’s 1932 campaign address in Detroit and it was perfect. So I downloaded it, ran it through a couple processing effects in Studio One, and sent it to the team. Big thanks to Alex and Dom for trusting me on it. I feel like it fits perfectly within the song.

As always, big thanks to the team:

Artwork: @james.final.mp4 (the best to do it)

Produced, engineered, and mixed: @penguinbydom (the GOAT)

Give it a listen and let me know what ya think. Really proud of how this one turned out. by @peannuttt___

One year of Cassian. One year with a tiny creature that knows nothing but bountiful love and admiration. A little guy who only wants to love his sister, and play. Never met a stranger. Will steal your food. Doesn’t meow but full on goblin noises. He is the greed the Bible talks about. But he’s my little guy, my little buddy. Thankful for the life we’ve built together mi amor, @jessnsanchez

A year ago this weekend, we went into the studio with five songs we felt best represented Feral Vices, not only as a band, but in our growth as musicians.

We were fortunate enough to spend the next eight days with Dom Maduri, who produced my 2025 record of the year, “I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven” by The Callous Daoboys. It was a wonderful experience, that man is doing incredible work, and it’s always such a privilege to have the opportunity to work with talented to people I get to now call friends.

Anyways, this is our second single, “Circles.” Check it out and share it with your friends. We have more music coming at you this year, and I can’t wait to show you all what we cooked up a year ago.

Thanks for listening, thanks for reading.

P.S. James is popping off with the artwork for these singles and I cannot wait to show off the others.

Spring Has Sprung (Or So We’re Told)

The Spring equinox passed a couple of weeks ago, bringing a noticeable shift in the atmosphere. Beyond just the change in air pressure as we transition to warmer weather, there’s a fresh energy in our community as people venture out from their winter hibernation.

At Quills, we celebrated by launching our Spring menu on March 20th. With it comes our seasonal favorite: Prologue.

Prologue is a two-part harmony consisting of a Honey Processed Colombia and a Natural Processed Ethiopia. Both coffees are standouts on their own, but together, they perfectly mirror one another to capture the essence of Spring.

Acidity: Bright nectarine juice and subtle sweetness.

Body: Delicate yet full, reminiscent of fine black tea.

Sweetness: A lingering, creamy dark honey that sits perfectly on the palate.

Whether you’re hosting friends or enjoying a quiet morning, it’s the perfect way to welcome the season.

Grab a bag on our website and share a cup with a loved one this weekend.

Five Years at Quills Coffee, and a Cup That Reminds Me Why I Love This Industry

November 2025 marks my fifth year at Quills Coffee and my sixth year in the coffee industry.

What started as a simple hobby, picked up while playing drums for a summer camp in South Carolina back in 2016, truly began with my first cup of specialty coffee from Methodical Coffee. That cup completely changed the way I thought about coffee. A few years later, I stepped behind the bar at Blue Bottle Coffee in San Francisco (shoutout to Pac Heights) in 2019. During my time there, my love for coffee truly took root. I tried to absorb everything I could and sharpen my skills every day.

From barista to senior barista to lead, I found a sense of fulfillment my ADHD brain constantly craves. When I moved back home during the pandemic, I was fortunate to join Quills Coffee, first as a barista, then as a fulfillment associate, coordinator, and eventually, Head Roaster / Roastery Manager.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities, mentors, and experiences that have shaped my path so far. I’m excited to see what the next five years bring as I continue learning the craft of green coffee sourcing and building meaningful relationships with farmers and importers.

On that note, I’ve been especially excited about our latest release, Mexico La Concordia.

In this cup, you’ll find a walnut-like body with a chocolate malt sweetness, finishing in a refreshingly crisp red apple acidity. This beautiful washed coffee comes from the Chiapas region of Mexico, known as the heart of the Mayan world.

Pick up a bag from a cafe or off our website.

Fun fact: Chiapas was a major center for the ancient Maya civilization, and its state capital is home to incredible ruins like Palenque, Yaxchilán, and Bonampak. Today, it has one of the largest indigenous populations in Mexico, with twelve federally recognized ethnicities.

Coffee tells a story, and it’s our responsibility within the industry to help share that story. The world can be an ugly place, but every time I have a cup of coffee and learn more about where it comes from, I’m reminded that we all want the same thing, community and a sense of purpose. by @peannuttt___

Mi Amor, where do I even begin to put this feeling into words?

From matching on Hinge, to our first date at Fleur De Flea, to falling in love with you at Gravely, our strange, beautiful little life has been nothing short of wild grace.
Food. Beer. Wine. Two cats. Laughter in quiet rooms. A steady kind of love.
A peace I never trusted before you.

Now, in 2025, I asked you to spend the rest of your life with me, and you said yes. No hesitation. Just light.

You are my calm in the chaos.
You are the mirror I don’t turn from.
You are every soft, fierce thing I never knew I needed.

Here’s to whatever forever looks like. Te amo. by @peannuttt___

Dropped two new coffees today over at Quills.

First up, Bolivia!

This one comes from the Amor De Dios community in Caranavi, the biggest coffee-producing region in Bolivia. It’s actually the first time we’ve ever carried a Bolivian coffee at Quills, which is wild. Coffees from Bolivia don’t show up much in the States, so this is a rare one. Big, juicy, sweet cup.

Tastes like: peach juice, vanilla, praline, milk chocolate, caramel, shortbread.

Second, Rwanda Kanzu is back.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had this one, but Rwanda’s one of my favorite origins so I’m always hyped to bring it in. Rwanda is one of the most organized and traceable coffee-producing countries in Africa. Most of the coffees are fully washed, which gives them that super clean, bright, complex vibe.

Tastes like: fruit cereal, candied lime, cherry, raisin, vanilla cream, black tea.

Come grab a bag and let me know what you think.

Happy birthday to my best friend of 27 years.
My ride or die, the other half of my one brain cell.
I’m beyond thankful to have you by my side on this wild ride of life.

We play music together.
We play way too many video games together.
And now, we roast coffee together.

I’m genuinely grateful to experience so much with you.
Most of the pics I have of us involve Tony, which honestly feels pretty fitting.

Happy birthday again. I love you. 🫡

Had a lot of fun in 2024 and experienced a lot of growth.

Took over head roasting responsibilities at @quillscoffee and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and the experience.

Feral played with @theyare68 and the @thecallousdaoboys this year. And we put out an EP and we’re very proud of. We also played our two best shows we’ve ever had at @commune_cdale grateful for the community there.

@dryingoutband wrote and recorded new music that we’re stoked to put out.

@jessnsanchez and I had our first solo trip as a couple and could not have asked for a better trip.

I’m so grateful for the memories made and the new friendships forged this year. 2024 was unforgettable, and I’m excited to see what 2025 has in store.
