Presenting our take on Glamour: PEARS 4 26 — A Ball Time.

We’ve been curious about the recent shift where sports have moved beyond leisure, becoming the ultimate social gathering and a new stage to dress up. Our contributing writer, @urbanxblight , investigates this intersection where the arena becomes the new ballroom. 🎾✨

This curiosity also led us to the legendary @krisdayantilemos whose recent turn to Wushu surprised and delighted us all.

Presenting our take on Glamour: PEARS 4 26 — A Ball Time 🍾

For this first cover, we wanted to explore the quiet side of glamour. Does it require an audience to be real, or can it exist entirely in the rituals we keep for ourselves?

This cover story features @mryhannn_ @claritaaa27 @shahnaz.indira @cissylia @vindylee and @_fshah_ in a dazzling fashion editorial captured by @torikdanumaya. While most may obsess with the outcome, Dhan Illiani finds beauty in the process that leads to the result. Through her work, traces of girlhood lingers across the visuals, an inexplicable calming and charming presence. Perhaps it is a testament to the way she centres her practice around inner life and structure, weaving together memories, emotions, imagination, humour, beliefs, and spirituality into a singular body of work; giving way to nuanced, instinctive, and dimensional.

“Maybe it’s terrible to say, but the images are almost an afterthought to me. I think I get more caught up in the process of visualising itself, as a way of negotiating the outside world with all the textures and intensity going on inside me.” She shared with us,

“So I don’t really think of them as images so much as a form of inquiry, they're part of a chain in my extended practice, or maybe just another condition to be in. Maybe that’s why they often come out a little surreal, and with some sense of protection. I end up constructing these very specific scenarios in the hope of reaching the parts that words weren’t made for.”
