It probably seems months away but we’re pretty sure the end of September and start of October will still be warm. That’s when we have our next availability. It’s probably the best part of the year as October picks up a few windier days to add to the warmth and excitement of late summer high tides. The days are still long enough to end them sitting on the roof deck with a drink looking across Rye Bay to Dungeness. The walks along the beach eastwards to the mouth of the Rother and westwards to Cliff Ends are fantastic and if you’re feeling adventurous you can cut across the fields and upto old Winchelsea town where Spike Milligan’s grave is. The inscription reads ‘I told you I was ill’ in Gaelic. So glad the warm weather is back and everything can slow down and just feel better. Looking forward to a busy summer @pebblesrye with lots of new and returning guests. @coastalgardenclub is making the shingle garden look really nice. @thefigrye, @theunionrye and @ono_pokebowls are just three of the many great places to eat in Rye that make the 60 minute walk across the fields via Camber Castle a must. The @ryeharbournr and the @lime_kiln_cafe are both on our doorstep and are a nice 45 min nature walk away. You just turn left out of the door at Pebbles and wander down the unmade lane until you leave the cottages behind and find yourself surrounded by berry bushes, reeds and bullrushes and ponds for the birds.If you need a drink at the end of that @williamtheconquerorrye is a worthy destination in Rye Harbour. Or you can dip into Rye and enjoy the hospitality of @yprescastleinn @thestandardinnrye or the little bar @hopeanchorhotel.There’s so much to recommend about the area. From the Beatles and Bowie for music buffs to Clooney and The Carry Ons in film and then there’s the artists old and new across the bay. This is why we stay here. Pebbles from above thanks to @talesfromfarmcottage. Looking out to sea across the back of the cottage and the shingle bank it sits on. The curving sleeper path from the back deck to the sun deck and fire pit areas. Never seen it like this before. Looks like we sit on a spit. These are Rye rooftops from the back window of the charming @hopeanchorhotel at the end of Watchbell Street Rye. I stayed there earlier this week as both @pebblesrye and @seashellscamber had guests and I needed to just go and check out the garden at Seashells. I had a great meal @ryesushi and then wandered round the cobbled lanes. I woke to a lovely drizzly characterful Tuesday morning in Rye. It really reminded me of when I first visited the area in 1986. I was living in Peckham (which also has a Rye) and my girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to go for a drive. We opened up a massive map of the south east and I saw Romney Marsh which I recognized from the Dr Syn books and films.So off we went. We drove through the marsh, along the coast, to Dungeness where we stopped to look at a black house with words set on the side, it is a little more well known now but back then we just stopped because I saw the words. On through Rye and we parked at Winchelsea Beach which back then had row after row of tall old sea weed coated groynes which looked like a regiment of soldiers.It became a place we would drive to regularly over the years, eating at The Forge in Rye and staying at a big old hotel which I think used to be a school, out on the Peasmarsh Road. Eventually I bought Pebbles about 20 years ago.This week in the drizzle it really felt like it did back then. Slow, quiet, characterful. The hotel feels quite out of time which I liked. Not aching to be cool or over-designed. Anyway. It was nice to know that Rye is still there if it’s wet and early enough. #rye #hotel #eastsussex by @pebblesrye

Some lovely interiors shots of @pebblesrye by @cubface who stayed recently. We’ve been very lucky this Spring to have so many good photographers come and stay. Over the years the house has been used by @marksandspencer, @miniboden, @sunspelclothing, @thewhitecompany and many independent brands to shoot here.The house and garden are incredibly photogenic. They also are the ideal quiet location to come and write, relax, plan and recover. We’ve had a number of novelists and newspaper columnists come and work or file from here. And four music artists including @timburgessofficial who wrote a @thecharlatans album here. Mainly though the house is just used to relax. If you need somewhere to unwind, walk, look out to sea and eat good food in nearby Rye do DM us for availability. We have two full weeks left I May, another two during July and August and a few other shorter stays scattered around across the coming months. Winchelsea is a huge interesting beach and Pebbles is just a fifteen foot grassy sea wall behind it.Depending on the time of day, the state of the tide, and the weather it always looks different. Walk left from Pebbles along the beach and you get regiments of old sea torn groynes and wave defenses. Head right and you have wide firm sand and a crown of shingle. Whichever way you choose no visit to the house is complete without a head clearing walk along the shore or beach head. DM for dates and rates. They are disappearing quickly. Three bookings a day for both Pebbles and @seashellscamber currently. Available this coming week though. #pebblesrye #winchelseabeach #pebblesbeachhouse by @pebblesrye
