POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last night, Long Beach showed up for us.

Nearly 1,100 of you sent comments to City Council. About 50 of you held signs. About 40 of you got up and spoke. You did that for a small local bike company and the people who work here, and we won’t forget it.

Thank you to the organizations that put their names on letters, and to every business owner and neighbor who wrote on their own. Thank you to Councilmembers Zendejas, Allen, and Kerr for supporting us.

The vote didn’t go the way we wanted. But we’re still here, committed to our community, and we’ll keep you posted on what’s next.

Thank you. by @pedalmovement

The City wants to hand Long Beach BikeShare, a contract worth up to $25.7 million, to a company headquartered in Toronto, bidding through a subsidiary company in San Francisco.

We were the only business HQ'd in Long Beach that bid, and we have experience operating BikeShare since 2017. The City's own staff report says the company it picked is not local and not a certified small business. Pedal Movement is both.

Bikeshare is the core of our company. If we lose it, Long Beach could lose us: the bike shop on First St, the bike valets, and your neighbors who've kept these bikes rolling since 2017.

1. Add your name to a letter. Link is in our bio — it takes two minutes.
2. Show up and tell City Council to vote NO on Item 20.

Council votes Tuesday, Oct 6. Our item may come up early, so be at City Hall (411 W. Ocean Blvd) by 5 PM sharp. Ride your bike; we'll have a bike valet. City of Long Beach wants to hand Long Beach BikeShare to a Toronto company. Tell Council to vote NO on Item 20. by @pedalmovement

Summer may have brought more riders, but transportation keeps going even when the season changes.

🚲🍂 Workdays and school schedules still need reliable ways to get people where they are going.

For bike share programs, that means staying useful even when ridership patterns shift. Bikes still need to be ready, demand still needs to be understood, and the system still needs to work for the people counting on it.

Pedal Movement operates bike share programs with that year round responsibility in mind.

Understanding local streets and daily travel patterns means spending time in the community, listening to the people who use the system, and working alongside the organizations already serving them. 🚲

Pedal Movement brings that approach to all of the communities we work in. We collaborate with city teams and local partners to understand what people need from active transportation and how a bike share program can fit into the larger picture. 🤝

That local connection helps us build stronger partnerships wherever the work takes us!

Secure bike parking can make cycling easier for commuting, shopping, appointments, transit connections, and daily stops around town.

That's why bike parking deserves a place in transportation planning alongside bike lanes and other cycling infrastructure. 🏙️

Pedal Movement helps communities think about the whole trip, including what happens when the rider reaches their destination.

Tomorrow is the vote. We need you in the room.

City Council decides Tuesday whether Long Beach BikeShare stays with a Long Beach business or goes to a company headquartered in Toronto. A full room tells them this city wants it kept local.

📍 Long Beach City Hall, 411 W. Ocean Blvd
🕓 Arrive at 4 PM. The meeting starts at 5.

You don’t have to speak. We’ll have signs for you to hold, and a bike valet nearby, so ride over.

RSVP at the link in our bio so we know you’re coming. Then bring a friend.

The longer a bike share program exists, the better it works for a city. 🚲

Over time, you learn where bikes are needed most, which stations see the most activity, and how ridership changes with seasons, events, and riders' routines.

Pedal Movement works closely with city partners to respond to what we are seeing on the ground, adjust where needed, and keep the program efficient for the people who rely on it.

Bike share programs are living parts of a transportation system and we help make sure they keep working that way.

Not every transportation need should require buying a car.

In 2023, 8 percent of U.S. households had no vehicle available. For many others, one household vehicle may not cover every commute, school trip, appointment, or errand.

That's why cities need a mix of dependable options like public transit that supports longer routes, safe bike lanes that make cycling more practical, and bike share programs that help people complete short trips or connect to transit without the cost and responsibility of owning another vehicle.

Pedal Movement helps cities operate bike share programs as part of a complete transportation system, giving residents more practical ways to move through their communities.

Libraries, parks, community centers, cafés, and public plazas are some of the places where community life happens outside of home and work.

Bike share stations placed near these gathering spaces can make them easier to reach without adding more pressure to nearby streets or parking.

Good station planning follows daily routines and real destinations. Pedal Movement has worked with city partners to review usage patterns, relocate underused hubs, and place bikes where they can support more trips.
