Fall and winter are a great time of year to harvest basketry materials.

We had a wonderful time walking around Penland’s campus with @flagmountain.studio with an eye for making baskets.

She showed us how to identify some exciting plants that she uses in her beautiful work.

Angela was a visiting artist during @abcoddington’s recent sculptural basketry concentration. She also taught a workshop last summer.

Hello from Penland Textiles! Today is a special day in the studio - @zakfoster.quilts Narrative Quiltmaking class really showed out with their instax photography skills and we’ve got some super cute photos as a result! It’s Giving Week at Penland, and the goal is to inspire 450 gifts of any size by Sunday, March 23rd.

We have 2 studio assistant scholarship opportunities in textiles for summer 2025! Both in natural dyeing. 👀 Many of our instructors choose their own studio assistants, but for those who don’t, there is an application process you can apply to. All info is on Penland’s website, links in bio.

While organizing the general supply closet in weaving today, I found this gem from 1944. I’ve only looked at this first page, but I’m delighted that it was apparently a trend to call weaving drafts “loom music”. Does anyone know about this? :) taken in Penland School of Crafts by @penlandtextiles

Hey y’all, rest assured that Lily Loom is just fine post-Helene. I’m so grateful. There is no power currently due to some outstanding repairs that have to happen first, but today I was unpacking some sewing kit refreshing supplies that I ordered before the storm. Plenty of natural lighting! I haven’t been on this account much, but the main Penland account is a good place for updates. -Mirrah by @penlandtextiles
