Earlier this week we had our Paleo Party at the Museum of Natural History and it was so fun! Guests "fed" Dunky, dug for fossils, made fossil rubbings and casts, took photos with the Pennsylvanian Era photobooths, explored collections, and participated in a scavenger hunt.

A big thanks to the Pentacrest Museums Student Advisory Board who helped put the event on. And thanks to all who joined. Come back soon! by @pentacrest.museums

🐦 Birding Event: BEYOND THE BINOCULARS

Join the UI School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability and the UI Museum of Natural History for a FREE birding adventure!

Saturday, October 24:

🌿 9:30–10:30 a.m. | Ashton Prairie
Explore birding tips/tricks, identification, birdsong, and helpful apps. Beginners and seasoned birders both welcome! Dress for the outdoors, bring water, and pack binoculars if you have them (we'll have a few to share).

🏛️ 11 a.m.–12:00 p.m. | UI Museum of Natural History
Fly over to Bird Hall to explore exhibitions and get a special look at bird specimens from the museum's collections vault.

A few weeks ago, we ran into Clay in the Museum of Natural History's lab while they were working on a new taxidermy project: a male fox snake. 🐍

Their first step was making a body form. Next was putting the snakeskin in a salt bath. After that, it's straight to the tanning solution. Finally, they'll start the process of fitting the body to the form.

And don't worry: this snake oil is very real 😉. We'll keep you updated on Clay's progress! by @pentacrest.museums

PALEO PARTY at the Museum of Natural History is just a week away! Next Wednesday, October 14th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., get ready to explore what Iowa looked like before humans or even dinosaurs had set foot here.
