Spooky Night @ The Museum is BACK

🗓️: Wednesday, Oct. 21
🕔: 5 - 7 p.m.
📍: @pentacrest.museums
🆓: Open for the community to enjoy

The Pentacrest Museums are excited to put on Spooky Night @ The Museum, open for all of our campus and community to enjoy.

We’ll keep the Old Capitol Museum open after hours for guests to find a treat and roam the galleries. Stumble upon docents with some slightly spooky history to share with you in our galleries like the original University President’s Office, the original UI Library, and the original Iowa House Chamber where our Iowa Constitution was first drafted and signed (if only walls [and ghosts] could talk...). On your way in (or out) be sure to say “hi” to the Ghostbusters of Iowa who will be ready to take a photo with you, their special vehicle, and of course, Old Cap as the backdrop.

Don’t miss out on the fun! Bring a friend, bring a date, bring your family, wear a costume if you’d like!

On Saturday the Museum of Natural History @pentacrest.museums and SEES created a program for graduate and undergraduate students to explore Ashton Prairie and get a behind the scenes look at the museum with a focus on bugs! Students engaged in a prairie scavenger hunt and insect id. They also learned about various sides of conservation from live studies, to specimen prep and specimen studies at museums. It was a fun and engaging day! #SEEStheday

The celebration continues virtually on Thursday, Sept. 24 at noon with a talk by co-curators Collin Vandewalle and Lindsay Moen.

Mark your calendars — the Downtown Fall Gallery Walk is just two weeks away! 🎨🍂

On Friday, October 2 from 5:00–8:00 p.m., downtown Iowa City turns into one big, self-guided art adventure. Wander from gallery to gallery, pop into your favorite shops and businesses, meet local artists, check out new exhibits, grab a bite along the way, and make a night of it!

With 25+ years of Gallery Walks behind us, there’s always something new to discover and this year’s lineup has plenty to explore. From ceramics and photography to textiles, collage, student work, glass, printmaking, and more, you can build your own route through downtown. Keep an eye out for more details about the featured artists, exhibits, and participating venues.

And the best part? It’s FREE and open to everyone! So grab a friend, make a dinner reservation, put on your walking shoes, and get ready to Gallery Walk! 🖼️

This summer, Rusty the Giant Sloth was hiding out all over Downtown Iowa City, and scavenger hunters spent July and August searching for him in businesses and locations throughout downtown!

A big congratulations to our grand prize basket winner! 🏆 Thank you to everyone who joined the hunt, found Rusty, collected stamps, and explored downtown along the way.

And if you haven’t met the real Rusty yet, be sure to visit the Giant Sloth at the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History! 🦥 @pentacrest.museums

Thanks for making this year’s Where’s Rusty Scavenger Hunt so much fun! Stay tuned for more downtown adventures to come.
