The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron isn’t a passive read for those feeling creatively blocked. It will challenge you, your inner critic and support your creative identity, if you let it.

You’ll benefit from this book if:
- you feel like you’ve lost your creative way or don’t know how to start being creative
- you ‘used to be creative’ but don’t feel that way anymore

I found some of spiritual aspects a bit woo-woo but overall it’s helped me feel human again.

If you’ve got recommendations of other books, programs, people, and places to help with creativity I’d be interested to know🪻 by @perthartlist

I don’t usually share any personal feelings or stories on this page but I remember the first time I saw Natalie’s charcoal work in 2022, I stopped mid-scroll.
I feel like artists in Perth solely focused on charcoal portraits are almost mythical in their rarity, and at the time, I had been experimenting with charcoal myself, smudging, erasing, chasing that elusive depth in a face. Seeing someone command the medium like Natalie does sparked a mix of awe and recognition in me.

Years have passed.

Last night I attended @nat.the.realist first solo exhibition called ‘A Bag of Rice for a Saturday Child’ at @zigzaggallerykalamunda . Listening to her speak about the work, and being present with the intimacy and controlled mess of Natalie’s charcoal works-with-a-difference was a little full-circle moment - witnessing the journey of an artist whose work had once quietly had a part in inspiring my own.

@perthartweekend is off to a fine start with an array of FREE exhibitions, workshops, tours, open studios and events on offer for the public to explore and enjoy. With a free shuttle bus service generously provided by @buswest__ to help you get from A-to-B without the hassle of driving between venues.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a VIP guided tour around Parliament House to view the impressive art collection and varied styles of architecture reflective of changing time periods since the first stage of Parliament House was built in 1902.

As part of the tour, Member of Nedlands, Jonathon Huston MLA, entertained us with a brief introduction to the processes and antics of the Legislative Assembly and Council, while renowned curator Dr Ainslie Gatt guided us through the multi-level building, adorned with chandeliers, arched hallways and retained federation stylings.

There are approximately 7,000 artworks in the collection, with a small number being periodically rotated between other state-owned galleries and venues. The artworks vary in medium and are steeped in cultural, historical and contemporary significance dating as far back as 1820.

Had an amazing time at the recent launch of SPACEMRKT’s Hayside Gallery and the 2025/26 edition of ARTFORM Magazine 🥂

Invited guests were treated to good vibes and a feast of the senses through:
✨ An immersive light installation by @teekenng and @sohanhayes
✨ Live music by ‘Heavier Situation’ from @perthjazzfestival
✨ Flowing drinks by the legends at @found.subiaco
✨ The most incredible spread of food by the team at @juanitasbarsubiaco
✨ The ‘Tension’ Exhibition at Hayside Gallery (Open to the 4th of July)
✨ Indoor decor by @gardenelegance_subiaco

During the last 14 years, @spacemrkt_au led by Joel Benichou and Sarah Booth, have supported the launch of more than 150 businesses and over 500 jobs by giving life to under-utilised spaces. Prior to the launch of Hayside Gallery, the property remained vacant for 4 years. Now, it is a warm and welcoming space, with an Artist Residency program to further support local artists and community creatives.

It was really impressive to see so many passionate businesses and creatives come together to celebrate art, community and culture. The launch of SPACEMRKT and ARTFORM is one of several activations supported by @cityofsubi to help revitalise the city centre and showcase the high calibre art, food, beverage, retail and rich history Subi has to offer.

I genuinely had a wonderful night and feel privileged to have one of my photos from the @nomoreblankwalls festival featured in the 2025/26 ARTFORM Magazine, amongst other high calibre photographers such as @jedlyall_productions Matt Jolonekk and Mark Naglazas.

Subiaco has come a long way in the last couple of years, with the addition of many new venues, eateries, markets, art events and activations. If you have not visited in a while, now is the time to go check it out!
