✨ Introducing our Petal & Play Community Basket 🍊🧺🌼

One of my favourite things about Petal & Play has always been the community that grows alongside the play💚

From our next session, you’ll find a little Community Basket. A simple space to share with one another🥹

🍊 Too many oranges from your tree?
🥖 A happy sourdough starter ready for a new home?
🌿 Herbs from the garden, children’s books you’ve outgrown, or something small you’d simply love to gift?

Pop it in the basket.

There’s never any expectation to bring something, and there’s no obligation to take something either. It’s simply there, if and when it’s needed. Whatever remains at the end of the session will find its way to someone who can use it 💚

After chatting with the lovely @mothersmany about this beautiful idea, I knew it belonged at Petal & Play. We’re growing more than little learners here. We’re growing connection, kindness and community too🌿✨

I can’t wait to see what little treasures find their way into our basket. 🧺💚

Is this the kind of community you’d love to be part of? 🌿✨

🌿 A few things you might not know about the person behind Petal & Play…

I’m an environmental biologist and registered teacher, with a Master of Teaching and experience in early years, primary education and science communication.

I’m also a mum of two, a nature lover, an AFL fan (I recently started playing too… so if you spot some gnarly bruises, I’ve probably played a game 😂), a country music enthusiast and the proud owner of far too many spiny leaf stick insects. 🪲

I’ve worked with reptiles, completed a uni work placement at Perth Zoo (yes, it was a lifetime ago and YES, I will still tell anyone who listens ✌️) and travelled across WA delivering hands-on science experiences to children and remote communities with Scitech.

Somewhere along the way, all of my favourite things came together to create Petal & Play: science, teaching, nature, creativity, play and being outdoors. 🌿

So when you come along to a session, you’re getting a teacher, scientist, mum and nature enthusiast who believes children learn best when they have time, space and interesting things to investigate.

Thanks for being here. 💚

Now tell me… what’s one random fact about you? 👇

A little play, a whole lot of love. 💚

Today, we travelled north of the river (you know it’s for a good cause 😂) to be part of Wild for Winnie, a beautiful morning bringing together local play businesses in honour of a very special little boy.

There was so much joy, exploring, messy play, creativity and little moments of magic. All coming together for something bigger than ourselves.

It’s pretty special to be part of a community of small businesses who are willing to share their time, ideas and love to support a cause that means so much.

All ticket proceeds are going to @healthystridesfoundation , chosen by Winnie’s mum, Barbara, with raffle proceeds supporting @telethon7

Thank you to the beautiful Eve at @mud_buddies_perth for bringing everyone together and creating such a meaningful day.

From our little corner south of the river, to Noranda - full of play, connection and community… today was a good reminder of why we do what we do. 🌸

For Winnie. 💚💚💚

A little nervous, a whole lot of excitement, and the most beautiful morning at Bibra Lake. 🍃💚

After a few days of rain, the weather really showed up for our very first Homeschool Gathering. I had so many ideas and a few butterflies about trying something new, but as soon as our first family arrived, those nerves disappeared.

The calm of Bibra Lake, the curious minds, the conversations and the wonderful feedback reminded me why I started this little business in the first place.

This is what we’re creating. A space to connect, explore, learn and simply be. 🌸

Thank you to the families who came along and helped make our first gathering so special. This is just the beginning!

💌 If you joined us today or were on the waitlist, check your emails!

🌱 Our next Homeschool Gathering is on 27 November, joined by Ali from @confident.littleminds for a special session all about growing confidence, curiosity and big ideas. Bookings open to everyone on Monday! 💚
🦖 We have an Early Years session on 23 October - bookings open!

🌿✨ PETAL & PLAY LEARNING ✨🌿

We joined @petalandplay.learning for their beautiful END OF TERM session, and there was so much for the little ones to explore! 🥰

The morning was filled with nature-inspired, child-led play including:
🪶 Bird-inspired discoveries
🧺 Building, weaving & creating
🐛 Wriggly investigations
🌿 Forest floor potions & nature treasures
🏡 Small-world habitats & hidden homes
🎨 Collaborative art
🫧 Sensory play & bubbles

The kids were free to move between each invitation, follow their own interests and explore at their own pace, exactly how play should be. 💚

We even stopped to share some fruit and crackers together while listening to a story before heading back to explore some more. 🍎📚

This session marked the end of Term 3 and Petal & Play’s time at Kulungah-Myah Community Centre.

🌿 TERM 4 🌿
@petalandplaylearning will be returning to their original home at Bibra Lake Reserve, with sessions back on FRIDAYS!

We can't wait to see what Term 4 brings. 🥰🌿

What do you want to be when you grow up? 🌸

A teacher. A scientist. An artist. An astronaut. Anything your heart desires.

But more than anything, I hope you grow up to be happy, calm, kind, loved and confident in who you are. 💚

I hope you know that you don’t have to have it all figured out. That your worth isn’t measured by what you achieve, how much you earn or how busy you are.

That a life well lived can be a simple one, full of little moments, people who make you feel safe, and things that make your heart feel full. ✨

The world will ask you to be so many things. I hope you always remember that being you is more than enough. 🍃

Childhood magic doesn’t need to be complicated. 💚

A few bits cups, something to investigate, a little imagination… and suddenly you’ve got a whole afternoon of play.

It doesn’t need to be Pinterest-worthy. It just needs to be inviting.

That’s the kind of play I’ll choose every time. 🌸🍃

A little bit of sunshine.
A little bit of fresh air.
A little bit of curiosity.
A little bit of play.
💚

Yep… that’ll do it. 🌸🍃
