Looks whoooooo’s coming to the park!🦉 While Phase 1 construction is still a ways out, we’re always looking for small ways to support healthy habitat at the River Park today. The park now has an owl box at the end of the peninsula, just past Huru! Given the limited number of trees currently in the park, this box will provide a safe nesting and roosting spot, supporting biodiversity and encouraging these remarkable birds to make the park their home.

Owls play an important role in a healthy ecosystem as natural predators, helping regulate rodent populations🐀and maintain balance within local food webs.

Shout out to long-time volunteer Ted McCann for the build, to our terrific park keepers for the install, and let us know if you see more of these winged marvels at the park!👀

👀 by @petalumariverpark

As part of our commitment to building a park that truly reflects everyone, Petaluma River Park Foundation staff attended @losciensonomacounty State of the Latino Community Address (SOLCA) last month at @sonomastateuniversity.

The North Bay’s premier gathering of Latino leaders, advocates, and allies brought together research, conversation, and action around the key issues shaping our region. We’re proud to learn alongside organizations working to build bridges, amplify voices, and advance equity for all and are left inspired to continue exploring how the River Park can be a unique place in uplifting and celebrating the rapidly growing Latino community. 🌿✨

With Labor Day Weekend coming up, we’re all asking ourselves, where did summer go??? The River Park’s a great place for one “last hurrah” picnic, during the day 🧺😎or right before sunset, during September’s Golden Hour. 🌅

Stock up on supplies 🥖🧀 🥪🍓, grab a blanket or a seat at one of the park’s tables, and don’t forget your camera! 📷 Swoon over the sky turning pink, purple, and gold, making for stunning shots of friends, the river, and back at some of Petaluma’s iconic structures.

What’s your favorite spot? 😍👇

😍👇 by @petalumariverpark

After yesterday morning’s rain, the skies were blue, full of puffy clouds ☁️ ☁️ ☁️ , hawks circling and perching on Huru, and... wait, what’s that?! Did you also catch Pathfinder 1 flying over the River Park and Petaluma? Mountain View’s Lighter-Than-Air electric aviation is looking to transform air travel and testing farther flights. Wonder what the hawks thought of the company! 🤔 🦅 🦅

This amazing group of people put on their regional hats yesterday in Sacramento, advocating for the Bay Area region’s lands and waters as the TOGETHER Bay Area coalition.

They embodied and carried joy, hope, learning and belonging throughout meetings with legislative offices.

They told stories about climate resilience projects that will build and care for healthier people and places with the support of public funding.

This group of people also shared meals, laughed, and connected as whole humans all day long.

We can’t think of a better way to advocate together. ❤️ taken in Sacramento, California by @petalumariverpark

Every landscape holds stories, and we're making sure more of them are heard. 👂 👂 👂

And special thanks to Luke Fuette for his work on this project’s foundational research report. 🙏

Here's to building a park—and telling stories—that truly belong to everyone. 💚

We may not be scientists 🤓, but we sure spend plenty of time with them! 🌿🐢

We’re meeting regularly with our design team, biologists, and regulatory agencies @cmgsite, @pci and @ca_coastal to anticipate concerns and make sure the park is applying the very best practices for habitat restoration and stewardship.

Restoring tidal marsh, expanding riparian habitat, and planting hundreds of trees 🌳 will create a healthier, more resilient riverfront for countless native species. Surveying and monitoring the site, protecting nesting areas, and safely relocating wildlife when needed are all part of the plan during construction—with wildlife corridors and ongoing stewardship helping species thrive long after the park reopens.

And we’re permitting for the whole vision from the start—so no lizards 🦎, turtles 🐢, jackrabbits 🐇, steelhead 🐟 or sturgeon are left behind!

At TOGETHER Bay Area, this summer wasn’t just popsicles and beach time! Instead, we made some really big progress with the Conservation Lands Network 3.0 Update by convening four different Regional Group Meetings across the Bay Area. Everyone who participated – from land acquisition project managers, to vegetation ecologists, to herpetologists, and more – came together to discuss how stewardship, fire and biodiversity are impacting Bay Area lands. The participants, representing 33 different organizations, provided recommendations, ideas, solutions, and constraints to discuss in more depth within the CLN 3.0 Report.

Major gratitude to our partners for hosting us: @midpenopenspace @petalumariverpark @ebmud_water @calacademy

You can learn more about these incredible regional gatherings at our blog (link in bio). by @petalumariverpark
