This amazing group of people put on their regional hats yesterday in Sacramento, advocating for the Bay Area region’s lands and waters as the TOGETHER Bay Area coalition.

They embodied and carried joy, hope, learning and belonging throughout meetings with legislative offices.

They told stories about climate resilience projects that will build and care for healthier people and places with the support of public funding.

This group of people also shared meals, laughed, and connected as whole humans all day long.

We can’t think of a better way to advocate together. ❤️

There are plenty of ways to throw a fundraiser, but Friends of the Petaluma River (an educational organization dedicated to the conservation of the Petaluma River) has always had a memorable approach: put people outside, next to the water, serve them good food, and let the river inspire them.

That’s the idea behind Sunset Fandango, their annual benefit, which returns from 4:00 PM 8:30 PM, on Saturday, August 29, 2026 to the David Yearsley River Heritage Center at Steamer Landing Park for an evening of food, music, dancing and riverfront revelry. The organization’s mission is to celebrate and conserve the Petaluma River through education and stewardship, and this is their biggest, (and most fun!) fundraiser of the year. This end-of-summer micro season asks a lot of us.

But the river does something else.
Changes direction with the tide. Catches the light. Makes room.
This is YOUR river.

Stay awhile.
See what’s here for you.

Blue Zones Project Petaluma recently collaborated with Petaluma River Park to accelerate activation of this vibrant third space — an accessible community hub — by hosting regular outdoor Zumba sessions.

We initiated this activation by launching the first wave of programming and catalyzing the development of a semi-permanent outdoor movement platform needed to support it.

We were also proud to support our wonderful community member Carine Gabriel in becoming a certified Zumba instructor, to be able to offer this course at a professional level.

Brought to Petaluma by Healthy Petaluma District & Foundation Blue Zones Project is helping our community make the healthy choice the easy choice.

At TOGETHER Bay Area, this summer wasn’t just popsicles and beach time! Instead, we made some really big progress with the Conservation Lands Network 3.0 Update by convening four different Regional Group Meetings across the Bay Area. Everyone who participated – from land acquisition project managers, to vegetation ecologists, to herpetologists, and more – came together to discuss how stewardship, fire and biodiversity are impacting Bay Area lands. The participants, representing 33 different organizations, provided recommendations, ideas, solutions, and constraints to discuss in more depth within the CLN 3.0 Report.

Major gratitude to our partners for hosting us: @midpenopenspace @petalumariverpark @ebmud_water @calacademy

You can learn more about these incredible regional gatherings at our blog (link in bio).
