'Whether Divergentè' - 16x16" acrylic, oil on canvas. My parents lived in Norfolk- Fen country. I'd visit them often and loved the differentials of light, sometimes unexpected too. I remember seeing Reed beds and the sun beating down on them. The sky sometimes dramatic, and always huge. Weather plays an important factor to us all, including the internal-how it makes you feel...

'Decades' - acrylic on canvas 30x70cm.

I’ve adored the music of Joy Division since I was 19. I still do. I’ve always felt drawn to people who saw me — and, perhaps more importantly, those who listened and seemed to get me.

Painting has always given me a place from which to speak, where I cannot really hide. Sometimes figures appear that feel less invented than encountered.

You put something of yourself onto a canvas and leave it there. People can choose to look away, but they cannot say it wasn’t said.

'Somethingfornoone'-

part of a larger work in situ- sometimes you just have to breathe and take stock and create. A little like fields running fallow, or more like trees before Spring. You know that something wonderful may happen, you feel it, you sense it. Until then just keep imagining, dreaming and sleeping....

'Quiet City' - 60×90cm a small part of the bigger picture...Come and see it with four other paintings I'm showing along with other artists this weekend at the Landmark Art Centre, Teddington

About the painting- the warm colours and that blue sky evoke a simpler time, perhaps driving, or gazing out the window to the distant hills. Time holds no pressure on the end result, its just the memory, that and of course gratitude. by @pete.hf

Teddington. I like the dark, not in a Vampirical sense, more one can get lost in one's thoughts and thus create, write, paint, elevate ones own storytelling.

When I attended my first art classes, now a long time ago, I was taught about the space that inhabits in-between the lines and the body of a subject. Negative space.

Thats stuck with my thinking, although like
many, I may not always get it right. Indeed,
when I stop thinking thats the sweet point. That's it. The Motherlode. by @pete.hf

Teddington- there's something mournful but strong here. I love the grey glaring back at me with its many dark eyes saying that it doesn't need anything from me. Moreso, I am mindful of a painting by Edward Hopper named - 'The Nighthawks'- Job done. by @pete.hf

I'm often taking myself for long walks that filter into my being, it feeds the soul and makes the creatable visible, or at least that's the idea.

Taking a short journey through Woodland Gardens in Bushy Park and wandering off the usual path to explore the oak trees I came across these two flowers placed in a hollow. There was something very human about their placing there. Like star crossed lovers- let's say 'Maureen and Phil'.

Its not important to know their significance other than to say whoever placed them there understands the poetry of 'they get it'- I guess that's all that matters. by @pete.hf

Cold January night waiting for a bus outside Hampton Court Station- its bitter. Its hard to think that just down the road in July there'll be a flower show, colour and warmth.

Still, somehow, I've always found a gift in that seeming coldness that lends me the thought I am alive and I feel.

Spring is aloof and shrugs her sleepy shoulders.....its not time yet.. by @pete.hf

'While things are'- 91x61cm oil on canvas

Sometimes things are meant to be exactly just that. What you find in the drawers of life, the ones further down that you perhaps forgot about. They are little 'Wayfarers'- Sign posts, if you need directions. Though of course these are rare and like any explorer, there's never a map.

My future son in law. I love the juxtaposition of the static tree lights between him and the ever moving sky outside, a cool 3°C. Despite the attention to everything going on outside- there is always a deeper introspection, especially at Christmas. Black and White seems to compress time into a timeless state. by @pete.hf

Do you remember when Quality Street had colours?

I remember way back aged 9- It snowed on Christmas eve and over night. That hardly happens in London at this time of year... My mum and dad hustling us in to a Red Morris 1100 named 'Prudence'. My brother Steve and me excited for the big day. We were choristers at St Pauls Church, South Harrow, we picked up our friend Richard and his dad and we drove about a mile and a half to sing midnight mass. I still remember that night with what can only be described as colour and magic...oh yes and singing our hearts out. I dont know how we all fitted into the car- 3 adults and us 3 kids.

On the way back we had to drop Rick and his dad off at the bottom of the steep hill we lived at as the car kept sliding back down the hill. It was so icy..... by @pete.hf
