A crazy, crazy, crazy night from the beginning of the summer. Five hours of my life I will never forget. Until my server fails, then all bets are off.

Good luck to all of you in the worst of the noreaster tonight. by @pete_mauney

One video, and details and a still, one evening over the Catskills and Ashokan Reservoir. The big lines seen here are either stars (swooping down left to right, aligned) or airplanes. Everything else, by which I mean the vast majority, moving nearby and overhead are all satellites. This short recording just a slice, zooming helps see what is hidden up high. This happens continuously, relentlessly and without rest at all hours of every day and will only increase as the years go by.

That's it.

Happy Saturday night. by @pete_mauney

#oh #hello #deeroldfriend #inthedark #inthecatskills

Came across a deer old friend in the woods tonight up across the river somewheres about in the dark. In fact, there were quite a few of them. We all seemed sort of surprised. Sea of reflective eyes all around. Several angry raccoons. I would have to go out on a limb, as it were, and speak for the creature to classify these as (generally) Mutually Disagreeable Encounters. by @pete_mauney

Nine months ago today I had my confrontation with sudden CABG(X3).

About now I was several hours out of surgery, de-intubated (a process about which I could write a very short and unpleasant book and was not supposed to remember but do…in detail) and littered with, uh, countless “transdermal” tubes.

@fiona.otway that night made one of the creepiest photographs I have ever seen of myself, or anyone for that matter, and I will never post it as I already can't get it out of my head.

That she, and so many others, were there for me, on some many levels, in so many ways, is everything to me.

Drainage tubes. Arterial lines. A giant fucking cluster of tubes and shit adhered to my neck to fully access my jugular. And, hey…we all gotta pee.

I asked a few months after and was told that my heart was stopped for 56 minutes on bypass.

A moment and an eternity and the longest time-out my heart has ever had.

Somehow, thousands of us get through this. Absolutely routine.

Especially in America, home of the fucking whopper.

Hell. I would do it again. It saved my life.

Now I can still be here to eat burgers and ice cream. For a little while. Maybe.

Now I can continue to watch my kids become themselves while undergoing deep change myself.

Life is good. Even when it sucks.

Somehow, I managed to exceed my expectations and recorded fireflies reproducing ("doing it") for five weeks this summer. Certainly not my biggest numbers, but some of my favorites just by way of my actual availability.

This video was one of the last images I made last summer, 2025. I had a 100% blocked LAD, two others not far off, trouble breathing (and trouble playing ultimate twice a week, lol), symptomatic AF and equally ignorant.

It could have happened any moment/place and I likely would have never known the how and the why.

I suppose some of y'all might have seen it on the socials had it happened but I'm glad it didn't.

I also suppose this would have a been as good a spot as any but I'm glad it wasn't.

Take care of yourselves. You deserve it. by @pete_mauney
