Sirena. A one-minute spec film for a waterfront tower in Miami that doesn’t exist.

I’ve always enjoyed making films for buildings because they leave room to play in ways a strict commercial process usually doesn’t. This one had no agency and no brief, so I made one up. I made it with AI, which let me keep changing it as I worked.

It started as a woman coming home late. Then I wondered what happens if she jumps in the pool with all her clothes on. Then it needed something surreal at the end, and for a waterfront building a mermaid made sense. So the building became Sirena. For my Anglo friends, Sirena is mermaid in Spanish. taken in Miami, Florida by @petecapo

Tarantino is one of the first directors who made me aware of structure.
Pulp Fiction isn't told chronologically. He reorganized the timeline to control when you feel tension, not to tell the story in order. The chronology is secondary. The emotional rhythm is everything.
What the graph shows is that he was already doing this in True Romance. Nearly identical tension patterns, two films apart.
He may have cracked his own code before most people knew he had one. by @petecapo

For better or worse I learn about what life is by watching movies. Eternal Sunshine is one of those. Devastatingly beautiful. Uses whimsy to tell a story that cuts deep. Casting a comedian as Joel was a choice I still think about. It’s a film I aspire toward and quietly accept I’ll never make anything close to. by @petecapo

Just wrapped a centennial film for @rudinnewyork marking 100 years in New York. Being trusted with a story like this is rare, and I’m grateful for it.

What stood out most was the people. From members of the Rudin family to building managers who’ve been there 20+ years, the care, pride, and consistency were unmistakable. Doors were opened, private spaces were shared, and everyone showed up to help make the film as strong as it could be.

Creatively, the focus was on moments that feel observed rather than arranged. Depth in the frame. Movement passing through space. Reflections, continuity, small human gestures that give a place its pulse. Even when scenes were constructed, the goal was for them to feel lived in, not performed.

The result sits somewhere between lifestyle and documentary. Romantic, but grounded. A film about buildings, yes, but more so about time, craft, and the rhythm of a city that’s always in motion.

Proud of how this came together.

Bahia Mar for St. Regis. We started with Slim Aarons—not the vintage stuff, just the feel. Beautiful places, beautiful people, framed with intention.
I had to hold back—let the shots run, trust the composition, let people drift through the foreground out of focus. Some of these felt like moving stills. And that worked. The rhythm came from posture, light, space.
Sometimes you don’t need the camera to move to get something that moves. Also had the chance to work with two new collaborators on this one— @massimohanozet , a legend behind the lens, and @_nickradford , who shot stills alongside our production. Grateful for both.
Another one with Related, And Partners, and Broder Productions—always a pleasure collaborating with this team. #setlife #stregis #bahiamar #slimaarons by @petecapo

This one’s called Flan. A mom and her son make one for someone special.

We approached it more like a scene from a film than a traditional ad—blocked it out with the actors, played with different ideas, let things breathe. The lines were mostly ad-libbed. The energy was relaxed. And somehow, the day moved even smoother than planned.

Having that kind of trust from the client and agency makes all the difference. We were able to try things. Shift tone. Follow instincts. It was one of those shoots where the collaboration felt effortless—in the best way.

We delivered the standard versions, but this is my cut. A version that holds onto a few extra moments that meant something to us on set.

Director cut of a CVS ad with a focus on Mental Health. Shooting inside a CVS store had its challenges - no product names, no medicines, no customer details. To solve this our Art Director @lilpeteparente and his team replaced everything in site with CVS branded products. Our DP @andrescinema used Petzval lenses to control a super shallow depth of field, controlling focus falloff to keep the space abstract but familiar. Problem solving like this makes these projects extra rewarding.
