AMON. ME. 2026.

📸: @petermkrask

Many thanks to Peter for capturing my essence. As a gay man, I have a very complicated relationship with my body. It may not seem that way because of what I post. Believe it or not, it’s started out as a dare to myself to be unapologetic about my body. Whether I felt good about the pictures or not. Because of learned survival mode and warped sense of self worth from a closeted teenager till a forty something out gay man, there’s always been performance. Not Correy. A lot of that has to do with growing up in a community where white ripped body aesthetics are considered the “standard”. Where their gaze means acceptance. Also, a lot of that has to do with trying to fit in spaces that were never genuine. I always tried to get people to notice me. That I was worth knowing and being loved.

In doing that, I’ve only lost myself further into my own void. Instead of just being myself, I edited. Reactions to me versus other people have reflected that over the years. I always noticed the difference, and it always hurt because I knew why that was. I was so groomed into performing that I didn’t know how else to be. I was so self conscious doing these pictures. I have gained weight. My body isn’t what it used to be and, naturally, I felt like I’ve lost, what I thought was, my only currency.

But seeing these pictures, even though I’m still a little self conscious looking at them, I’m starting to really see ME for the first time. And I’m very grateful to Peter for capturing something I couldn’t see ❤️ taken in New York, New York by @petermkrask
