The Marin County Civic Center has spent the last sixty years proving that civic architecture doesn’t have to be boring. For Further Triennial 2027, Works In Progress @worksinprogress_sf brings together a group of artists for “Commons,” an exploration of how design can shape civic life.

From August 2026 through March 2027, artists, architects, and designers will develop new furniture and spatial works in dialogue with Frank Lloyd Wright’s landmark civic center. Part exhibition, part experiment, “Commons” will explore new ways to sit, wait, and linger in one of the Bay Area’s most unusual public spaces.

Part of Further Triennial. Opening Spring 2027.

Featured throughout the ESPASSO Apartment are ceramic works by Peter St. Lawrence, presented as part of the ongoing partnership between ESPASSO and VERSO. A collaboration dedicated to bringing together collectible design and art within a shared vision of contemporary living.

Hand-built and quietly expressive, Peter St. Lawrence’s sculptures embrace irregularity as a mark of the maker’s hand. by @peterstlawrence

Why I volunteer for @creativegrowth Be still my beating heart. The most fun I’ve ever had doing tabletop decor. Last night’s Beyond Trend runway show and fundraiser featuring @kimpaper ‘s soup dinner featuring 20 legendary Bay Area chefs. The event is healing in ways I can’t describe. Wrapped sculptures by Tony Pedemonte and Moon Rocks by Maureen Clay

Shout out to my iconic squad of volunteer designers who dipped in and out of the studio and supported me when I was dead on my feet
and carried me through install:

I put my phone away during the runway show but stay tuned in the stories for reposts.

“The Espasso Apartment,” curated and designed by @tangible.space in collaboration with @verso_works and @espasso , is now on view at:
144 Vanderbilt Ave, Brooklyn May 20–27 by appointment through Espasso’s website

The installation presents a fully realized residential environment built around a curated selection of historic Brazilian design from Espasso. Conceived as a lived in apartment rather than a showroom, the project explores the relationship between the sculptural weight of the building’s concrete architecture and the warmth, tactility, and material richness of Brazilian modernism.

Historic works include designs by Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Claudia Moreira Salles, Oscar Niemeyer, Jorge Zalszupin, Carlos Motta, Giuseppe Scapinelli, and others, alongside contemporary lighting, fiber work, and sculptural pieces by Kawabi, Kat Howard, Peter St. Lawrence, L.T. Horowitz and Office of Tangible Space.

Access to The Espasso Apartment is available through “Nothing Comes From Nothing” through May 27. Photo by @ben__dehaan taken in Brooklyn, New York by @peterstlawrence

Over the Moon to have work included in this installation for Design Week NYC. Curated by @tangible.space and @verso_works, against the sculptural heft of the building’s architecture @144vanderbilt, the @espasso collection and contemporary artists introduce an essential counter-narrative of tactile, material driven, warmth and humanity.

Registration is required. Link in bio to RSVP. See you out there! by @peterstlawrence
