Frequent collaborator, and “I can’t believe that guy is still alive” Art Director @jack_dylan invited me to imagine my childhood fears of skynet taking over and destroying humanity for this latest Corporate Knights illustration. For the uninitiated, Terminator 2 is not only the greatest action movies of all time, but one of the best buddy comedies. Heartfelt. Scary. Everything great about dumb big popcorn films. Jack is and remains one of the greats. by @petexryan

Photography and illustration nerds know how beautiful Texas Highways magazine is. The design is elegant. It’s Art Directed by @saraintheweeds who everyone admires. Sara is so skilled, it’s such an honour to contribute! Anyway, I’ve been bugging Sara, cause I wanna start posting pieces from a series I painted about books and reading / writing. I’ve been painting work lately in a way that’s somewhat new for me. Larger brush than is required. Slightly watered down paint. My goal is to loosen the work up more. Casual viewers probably don’t notice, but I do. Anyway, these are two pieces from the series, the first about writing and reading prison programs that are helping inmates express themselves, grow, and ultimately achieve some freedom of self- the second is about this store called “Half Price Books” and the authors inability to go in there without getting a hundred books and reading like a mad woman! Both of these pieces I felt great about. I’ll post a spread and final spot next week by @petexryan

From time to time my pal @mistergash and I collaborate under a pseudonym, James Walton. We’ve taken on jobs as James for a decade. It’s an opportunity to work in a different style without our names attached, which has been freeing, and always takes our own practices in interesting directions. Anyway, James just did this podcast cover for the Wall Street Journal, about the upcoming midterms. It’s a continuation of pre election art we did a few years back. Huge shout out to Elizabeth and Brianne, two incredible collaborators. by @petexryan

New cover for the Progressive, about voter suppression and the lengths being taken to disenfranchise women and minority voters in the midterms - we explored a lot of concepts but landed on a snake trying to swallow i voted sticker like egg - duplicitous suppressors trying to swallow democracy whole. They wanted a quiet tie in to the “don’t tread on me snake” which is recently connected to far right groups - thanks Susan by @petexryan

Did a fun piece about moving to new neighborhoods and where you can find an affordable house still in LA for the LATimes a few weeks back- liked the quiet idea of a huge stack of moving boxes doubling as a palm tree in the background- been painting most pieces with watered down acrylic- I like the feeling it gives pieces- some roughs and paining details if you scroll - thanks Jim and Nicole! by @petexryan

The stock market should be freaking out because disaster is everywhere but is kinda oblivious to it- New for the New York Times- liked landing on the dinosaur chillin amidst total chaos everywhere- the red version was the original but it was felt the stock line wasn’t reading super quick, and that the Dino could look more chill so we revised! Thanks Zak, and Molly! by @petexryan

Couple weeks back I had a huge piece in the New York Times business section about this insane Wall Street / ai codependency that basically is one propping the other up, either will fail it the other does, and boy oh boy is it alarming! A few fav roughs here too but I bet I sent close to 20 ideas- @greicymella was the AD AND A TOTAL AWESOME GEM! we chatted Numetal a bit which I’m still a bit of a n00b with, but learning. Turns out system of a down has riffs - obvious bulls fucking was my top choice but that was never gonna happen by @petexryan
