Allison lost her beloved and beautiful daughter Chloe thirteen years ago today, to suicide.

She spoke out at the Clovis School Board this past week against their forced outing policy, trying to help the Board Members to remember the humanity of the students which this policy affects- and to remember their *own* humanity as they consider what steps to take next.

“Chloe’s voice has been silenced. So *I* will be her voice. I will speak up for her and for other young people like her, until my dying breath.”

When we spoke with Allison to ask her permission to share hers and Chloe’s story, one of the things we spoke about was the notion of grace. That people, once they know better, *can* do better. “I have to allow for space for people to grow- as my child wanted *me* to grow,” said Allison.

There is so much disinformation and so much harmful rhetoric out there about our beautiful and vibrant and loving trans and gender diverse loved ones & community. But there are also so many gentle and at the same time fierce people like Allison, doing everything humanly in their power to fight that misinformation with our own stories. Who work with love to bring understanding and compassion back to the table as we have these discussions. Who share so much of their joys, their pain, and their struggles in the hopes of creating empathy and compassion where there was only fear and a lack of human connection and understanding before.

“Grow Your Mind,” as Chloe used to so perfectly put it.

Over the course of the next few weeks we will be sharing with you the stories shared by people who spoke out at the Clovis Unified School Board Meeting. (With their explicit permission, of course.) We urge you to listen to these voices, and join in the chorus who are fighting not just against a terrible policy, but against the tide of fear-filled, dis-informed rhetoric that drives it.

Grow Your Mind.

To hear more of Chloe and Allison’s story, which Allison so generously shares with us all, listen to today’s special episode of @itsaqueerthang - and *honor Chloe and Allison* with your commitment to re-humanizing trans and gender diverse people whenever you can. Stand up and speak out today. by @pflag_fresno

This Transgender Day of Visibility feels different, doesn’t it?

In a world where some people are emboldened to be very loud, remember that our love will always be louder. We trans people have always been here. We always will be here. Our trans ancestors lived their lives in a way that lit a beacon for us today, and our trans elders continue to carry that beacon— and our trans young people have taken that beacon and lit it up so brightly and so beautifully that it cannot be ignored.

We will *always* exist.

Chapter President Drew, an out and proud trans man, is here in this clip from ABC30’s News coverage of the TDOV celebration with @trans_e_motion (and the awesome folks at @casitafelizfresno had a great celebration at their center as well!) to remind us of the power of representation, and the power of love.

Visibility is a start. Empowerment, representation, safety, equality- that is what we call for on this Transgender Day of Visibility. 🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽 by @pflag_fresno

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️Coming out is rarely easy. It can mean risking rejection, discrimination, or losing the support of people you love.

Today, we honor those who have come out, those who are still finding the words, and those who are waiting for a safer time, or choosing not to come out at all.

Coming out is personal. There is no deadline and no right way to do it. Everyone deserves to decide when, how, and with whom they share their story.

To our LGBTQ+ community: You are worthy of love, respect, and belonging exactly as you are. 💙

To families, friends, and allies: Let the people in your life know that your love is unconditional. Create spaces where everyone can feel safe being themselves.

At PFLAG Fresno, you are not alone. 🌈

💕🌈We were delighted to be at the PFLAG Regional Conference, “Love Out Loud” yesterday, with our amazing PFLAG NorCal and Nevada Chapters.

Anu Gupta @anew_gupta, from our Chapter spoke captivatingly with the incredible and brilliant Amaya and Lucy from @pflagfremont on “How to grow a diverse Chapter; Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs”. Thank you, Krista and Elizabeth for attending the Summit, and Jamie and others for attending online.

Thank you to Drew, @pflag_fresno, our Regional Director for pulling off our first Regional Conference with @pflagsf’s @robertcostic, @_natemueller and Sandy - you all literally brought the National Conference to us with so many amazing sessions, opportunities to learn, interact with PFLAG chapters and other LGBTQ+ supporting organizations, and to network. Thank you! 💕

Thank you to Nadine for a moving land acknowledgement. We really enjoyed attending @rkenanarun’s session on the @lgbtasylumproject, Veronica, @pflagoeb’s session on Safety, Lainie, @pflag_trivalley and Jessica, @pflagsjp’s session on School Board Advocacy and many others. (We admit we had to adapt a few photos from previous occasions :), we were so bedazzled).

Till the next time! 💕🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ #Summit #PFLAG #LGBTQ+ #Networking #Education by @pflag_fresno

I was beyond honored to be recognized today by The City and The County of Fresno for my active allyship work with PFLAG Fresno and Trans-E-Motion! I am still in shock, but I am proud to represent PFLAG and super proud to be part of this community that somehow manages to always give me back more than I give. Thank you to my friend and mentor, Drew Baughar, who wasn’t able to be there today, but I know played a huge part in my name being brought to the table for this.
Thank you to Supervisor Luis Chavez and staff for welcoming all of us into the Supervisor Chambers today to celebrate allyship on National Coming Out Day. We appreciate your allyship as well!
There’s a lot of work to still be done. We need more folks to be active allies. If you want to help, but don’t know how, reach out to me. Every little act of love or minute of volunteer time makes a difference!

We had such a great turnout for our very first PFLAG Fresno family dinner and we hope we see all of your wonderful faces again. We will be serving Mexican food this month so come hungry. Be sure to bring a friend, share it on social media or tell someone you know that could use a built in family! Postcards will be on hand to write those courageous banned authors and we will also be decorating a library tote to hold all of those banned books we can check out and read from our library at the Queer Collective or our local Fresno Library. All food and activities are completely free. taken in Queer Collective by @pflag_fresno
