💕🌈We were delighted to be at the PFLAG Regional Conference, “Love Out Loud” yesterday, with our amazing PFLAG NorCal and Nevada Chapters.

Anu Gupta @anew_gupta, from our Chapter spoke captivatingly with the incredible and brilliant Amaya and Lucy from @pflagfremont on “How to grow a diverse Chapter; Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs”. Thank you, Krista and Elizabeth for attending the Summit, and Jamie and others for attending online.

Thank you to Drew, @pflag_fresno, our Regional Director for pulling off our first Regional Conference with @pflagsf’s @robertcostic, @_natemueller and Sandy - you all literally brought the National Conference to us with so many amazing sessions, opportunities to learn, interact with PFLAG chapters and other LGBTQ+ supporting organizations, and to network. Thank you! 💕

Thank you to Nadine for a moving land acknowledgement. We really enjoyed attending @rkenanarun’s session on the @lgbtasylumproject, Veronica, @pflagoeb’s session on Safety, Lainie, @pflag_trivalley and Jessica, @pflagsjp’s session on School Board Advocacy and many others. I was beyond honored to be recognized today by The City and The County of Fresno for my active allyship work with PFLAG Fresno and Trans-E-Motion! I am still in shock, but I am proud to represent PFLAG and super proud to be part of this community that somehow manages to always give me back more than I give. Thank you to my friend and mentor, Drew Baughar, who wasn’t able to be there today, but I know played a huge part in my name being brought to the table for this.
Thank you to Supervisor Luis Chavez and staff for welcoming all of us into the Supervisor Chambers today to celebrate allyship on National Coming Out Day. We appreciate your allyship as well!
There’s a lot of work to still be done. We need more folks to be active allies. If you want to help, but don’t know how, reach out to me. Every little act of love or minute of volunteer time makes a difference!

This Saturday, October 10th, PFLAG families and allies from across the Mid-Pacific region meet at Skyline College in San Bruno for Love Out Loud, our regional summit. 🏳️‍🌈

Here’s the session lineup:

→ How to Grow a Diverse Chapter: Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs

→ Safety First: Exploring Chapter Safety Planning
→ State Legislative Advocacy, 2026 Advocacy Activities, and Ideas for Improvement

→ Speaking Truth to Power and Building Bridges Within Local School Districts

We also have some incredible sessions from leaders in the community across partner organizations. A lot of our sessions are led by PFLAG chapter leaders who have done this work in their own communities, from school board meetings to reaching families outside their usual circles.

We are delighted to present at the summit on, “How to Grow a Diverse Chapter: Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs” - we are thrilled that Anu Gupta, our Chapter Leader and Amaya Wooding, President and Lucy Shen, Secretary, PFLAG Fremont/Tri-Cities @pflagfremont will present this session jointly.

🪷About the session - Building a diverse and intersectional community is always easier said than done. If your chapter or board lacks diversity, this is the talk for you! We’ll share experiences from the Asian-American ethnoburbs of San Ramon, Danville, and the Tri-Cities, covering common pitfalls, ways to reach people outside our bubbles, and real-life scenarios.

🪷About the Summit: 16 PFLAG chapters across Northern California and Nevada will be in one room on October 10th. The Mid-Pacific Regional Summit brings chapter leaders and partner organizations to Skyline College in San Bruno for one day, under the theme “Love Out Loud”. The agenda is practical, delivered by our amazing colleagues and partners: chapter safety planning, working with local school districts, growing chapters that reflect our communities, state legislative advocacy, a session on LGBTQ+ mental health with the Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, Yale School of Public Health. And our dear friend Kenan Arun, ED, LGBT Asylum Project @lgbtasylumproject will talk about standing up for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers...

Chapters across the region (and nation) face many of the same questions.
How do we keep members safe?
How are we useful to a school board?
How do we grow past the same twenty people?
A day together is how those answers travel. Join us in person! Or join us virtually from anywhere!

Pride month might be over, but the love we felt during Fresno Rainbow Pride will sustain us for the rest of the year and beyond.

Governor Newsom @cagovernor needs to sign the budget before 30th June!

Today, the people of Fresno let their voices roar. Leaders of faith, clergyman, pastors, grassroots, organizers, concerned citizens, and peace groups packed the Fresno County Hall of Records... not in silent submission, but in defiant solidarity, to declare that Supervisor Gary Bredefeld’s so called "Nuclear Family Resolution" is a relic of exclusion, not a reflection of our reality. We showed up to say unequivocally: Every family matters. Single parents. Grandparents raising grandchildren. Foster children searching for belonging. LGBTQ+ families loving and thriving. Yet this resolution, as written, erased them all. Speaker after speaker laid bare the harm, but instead of listening, Supervisor Bredefeld tried to silence us, slashing speaking time from 3 minutes to just 60 seconds and capping opposition at 15 voices, even as our numbers dwarfed his supporters. When Supervisor Chavez courageously asked if the resolution would finally include LGBTQ+ families, Bredefeld’s answer was a sharp, unflinching "No." The chamber erupted with boos and with the righteous thunder of a community fed up with bigotry. Bredefeld attempted to quell that fire by singling out Alfred of the Fresno Resistance, hoping to intimidate. But Alfred stood taller, booed louder, and made certain everyone heard the truth: this isn't one man's misstep... it's a long, shameful history of bigotry, hate fueled rhetoric (slide 18). Even as police escorted him out, his voice, our voice, was never silenced. The Board passed this resolution 3–2, a big disappointment but NOT a defeat. This is not the end. This is the spark. To every person who showed up, spoke out, and refused to watch all families be erased: We see you. We honor you. And we will not stop. We are fighting for a Fresno that doesn't just tolerate diversity, it celebrates it! A Fresno where inclusion isn't a buzzword, but a birthright. Where equality isn't negotiable. The resistance is real. The resolve is unbreakable. And we will keep pushing.. until every family, every identity, every voice is not just recognized, but respected. Celebrated. Included. This fight is far from over. Stay ready. Stay loud. Stay United.
