The bold progressive voice of Middle Georgia. Representative of Progress GA
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
There is a long laundry list of things that black folks are known for, including creating every modern genre of music, being the backbone of civil rights movements, and taking over like it's the 99/2000.

But there is one thing we know Black folks don't be doing: they do not hang themselves from trees.

Over the past year, at least 10 Black people have been found hung from trees in America mainly in the South.

It's incumbent upon us as a nation to rise up and fight back against these heinous incidents.

These 10 individuals -

Tasia Fortune and Demartravion "Trey" Reed of Mississippi,
Demetrius Flemming and Juliana Nzita of North Carolina
Justice Kai James and Kyle Bassinga of Georgia
To'nea Nicole Miller of Florida
Jerard "Jay" Jackson of Michigan
Torrence "Tory" Medley of Wisconsin
and more recently a black man in Maryland who's name has not been revealed to the public -

all deserved better than what they were given and how this situation has been handled. We need to call upon our representatives to push law enforcement agencies to investigate these tragedies.

Because we all know there's a lot of things Black folks probably goin' always do - but we know one thing that they ain't about to ever do, and that's hang themselves from trees.

It's called Flock. It's in Houston County. And for the next 4 weeks, we're breaking down exactly what it is and who's watching.

New episodes every Tuesday this August. 👀

Yo Yo Yo what's good? So, lately I've noticed a lot of people turned off from politics. I get it. But...

We can't allow that burn out to stop us from creating a better world. So, I decided to just jot down some thoughts and hit the stage for a quick performance.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. I find that to be true, but I also recognize that it takes a village to build a community. You see, what unites us will always be bigger than what divides. So that means we could either move to the beat of our own drum, or we could start playing the music together. And whether that song is stand by me or lean on me the message remains the same; communities are only as strong as the love they have for their neighbors. And when times become rough and the ends don't meet, it's the ones that come in our times of need that we must never forget. So, know that no matter what it cost to build the community that amount will never be too much... Just show us the receipts!

The film is now live and available to watch.

Southwest Georgia, in their own words. The bills that don't add up. The checks that are half gone before they land. The choices no family should have to make, and the people who made them anyway because no one gave them another option.

None of this is abstract. Utility bills, food assistance, healthcare, and the cost of getting by are shaped by decisions, and the people who make those decisions are chosen at the ballot box. Election Day is November 3rd. Make a plan to vote.
Southwest Georgia families deserve to see the receipts.

📲 If you live in Southwest Georgia, this is still your invitation: share your story at showusthereceipts.com. This film was built from this region's stories, and there are more to tell.

You can also watch the film over on our YouTube channel. Link in bio. by @pga_mga

Welcome back, to week 5 of the 50% project. We're halfway through our campaign and things are starting to pick up speed. This week's segment discusses one of the biggest barriers to combating child food insecurity: transportation.

People don't consider transportation an obstacle until the facts are laid out. Public transit isn't always available, not every family has a dependable vehicle, and not every community has close access to grocery options. These are some of the contributing factors affecting - seniors, rural communities, the disabled, and so many more of our neighbors.

How do we combat these conditions?

Well, solutions that have been implemented include - access to public transit, school-based food programs, mobile food distribution, and benefit enrollment support. We have the solutions and now it's time for us to start utilizing them.

Make sure you're following at PGA_MGA for the rest of the campaign and for more ways to help solve this crisis.

As we close out this week we reflect on our earlier video. Child Food Insecurity is a measureable issue, which means it's solvable.

We know the contributing factors, we know the solutions, we have the resources, and it's time to put our money where our mouths are so we can put food where their mouths are.

Continue to follow along at PGA_MGA for the rest of the campaign and for more ways to help solve this crisis.

Albany, Georgia, located in Southwest Georgia, carries a rich history in our state and suffers some of the worst economic outcomes in the country.

It has some of the highest insurance rates in the state, and many local jobs don't pay livable wages. Most uninsured Georgians live in Southwest Georgia, and many residents are hoping they don't have a medical emergency. Albany's median household income is $47,420, but more than 1 in 10 households earn less than $10,000 a year. Many residents work two jobs just to make ends meet.

The full short film premieres on our YouTube channel and Instagram on October 15th. 🎬
