I recently figured out how to perfect these oven roasted chips: cut your tatties into wedges and line a baking tray with paper. Put each wedge with the cut side onto the paper. Drizzle with a few tablespoons of oil, lots of salt and cut a knob of butter into small cubes and divide them over the tray too. Peel & halve 3-4 cloves of garlic and spread them out on the potatoes. Pre-heat the oven to 190 degrees celsius (with fan) and roast for 30 minutes, then take them out, turn the wedges upside down and sprinkle rosemary on them, then put them back into the oven for another 30 minutes. by @phaedrafidessa

In-between crazy rainstorms, I dragged myself outside this Sunday afternoon. For the past couple of days I spent a lot of time lying on the sofa, recovering from some minor injuries after a cycling accident. To keep up a sense of normality, I still go through my usual morning routine every day: paint for at least 5 minutes, write at least one sentence of my fantasy manuscript, then have breakfast. My paintings are always taken from sketches I make out in my garden. I grab my sketchbook, do a lap around the various plants and draw their general shape as best I can. The rule is to fill as many pages of the sketchbook in one go as possible with as many different plants as possible, because when you’re a pathological perfectionist—albeit a recovering one—this helps to keep things moving. And also it gives you loads of sketches to choose from when you’re painting. I’ve come to realise my creativity works best when I’ve prepped as much in advance so I have less choice overwhelm in the moment of creation. So now I’m stocked up again with fresh sketches to choose from for the next couple of days! by @phaedrafidessa

The earth is a garden we get to tend, a body we get to nourish. And when we do, it will tend us and nourish us in return. by @phaedrafidessa

I love these roadside farm stalls in Sweden. They tell me so much about local craft, community care annd trust. I much prefer to spend money on real human effort than faceless monoculture farms run by a single guy and a lot of machines and pesticides. Farming is an incredibly hard profession, and made harder by legislations and funding. Whenever possible, support small and local farmers, especially those who actively try to work ecologically. The food they produce tastes better for it! by @phaedrafidessa

We joined my boyfriend’s family for the last leg of their summer holiday along the northern west coast of Sweden. Warm stone beaches and cold, clear water. We swam in a stormy sea yesterday, waves big enough to swallow us. But it was gloriously freezing and there was just enough sun to get warm again after. by @phaedrafidessa

Took my family from Holland blueberry picking along the Swedish west coast. Already one of my favourite memories of this summer ❤️ (Also, yes: that’s me wearing a thick af wool jumper on a sunny July afternoon 🤣 it was crazy windy along the cliffs. So it was a jumper-on, jumper-off, rinse repeat kind of day) by @phaedrafidessa

My sense of time this summer swings from harried to abundant, sometimes multiple times a day. Summer be summering pretty hard this year, and I’m not just talking about the weather! by @phaedrafidessa
