You don’t need more rigid scripts for uncomfortable workplace conversations.

You need room to think through the nuance, pressure, power dynamics, and competing needs that make those conversations hard in the first place.

🎉 The CLEARER Conversations™ Lab is back this August.

It is a small group leadership lab for people who want a clearer way through the conversations that shape trust, teams, and outcomes.

Over two virtual sessions, we will make space to pause, notice what is underneath the conversation, and explore how you want to respond with more intention.

You will leave with a flexible approach you can return to, more clarity around what is asking for your attention, and a deeper understanding of how to move through uncomfortable conversations without defaulting to urgency.

🗓️ August 13 + 20
🕣 8:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. ET
💻 Two-part virtual Lab · 3 hours each
👥 Maximum 8 participants

I did a thing, friends!!!

Last year, I hosted a series of live conversations on LinkedIn with some truly amazing humans.

Those conversations are now on the Lime, Listen & Learn: The People Leadership Lounge Podcast!!!

A lime is a Trinidadian (and wider Caribbean) term for hanging out, chatting and just vibing with each other. No scripts. Just seeing where the conversation takes us! And that is the spirit of these conversations!

Each episode explores the people side of leadership. Power. Identity. Belonging. Team dynamics. The conversations that shape how we work and lead, even when they’re not always easy or tidy.

All of the 2025 episodes are now live and ready to binge (links in bio):

What happens when you have changed, but the people around you are still responding to who you were when they first met you?

People may know us from one particular chapter without seeing the experiences, discoveries, and internal conversations that have shaped who we are becoming.

In this episode of Lime, Listen & Learn: The People Leadership Lounge, Sara Chandran (@freshandfearless_uk) is back as my guest chatting about leading through identity shifts!

We get into invisible identities, late discovery, disclosure, power, and what it asks of leaders, colleagues, friends, and family to remain curious and make room for people to evolve.

This is Sara’s second time on the podcast, and as we say in Trinidad, if it’s nice, do it twice! 🤣 And we always have such a blast liming - recording or not!!

What does mentorship miss when we treat everyone as though they are starting from the same place?

A lot of advice sounds good in theory.

Speak up. Ask for the raise. Put yourself forward. Find a sponsor. Take the opportunity.

None of that exists outside of context.

People are walking into workplaces, leadership spaces, and mentorship relationships carrying different identities, risks, access points, and past experiences. The same advice can land very differently depending on who is receiving it and what they are navigating.

In this episode of Lime, Listen & Learn: The People Leadership Lounge, Tyler Skinner (@thetylerskinner)and I are talking about what mentorship can build, what it requires, and what gets missed when support comes with conditions attached.

We get into mentorship, allyship, sponsorship, access, accountability, and why none of these things can work in isolation.

What happens when the story an organization tells publicly does not match what people are actually experiencing inside it?

People notice the gap.

They notice when the values on the website do not show up in how decisions are made, how conflict is handled, who gets supported, or which conversations keep getting avoided.

In this new episode of Lime, Listen & Learn: The People Leadership Lounge, Ashlee Sang (@ashleesangconsulting) and I are talking about the thin line between culture and perception.

We get into trust, values, internal culture, public messaging, and how quickly the two can become disconnected when the everyday experience does not match the story being told.

The full episode goes much deeper into what it takes to close that gap and what leaders need to pay attention to before trust starts to erode.

Sometimes workplace wellness feels like handing people a breathing exercise when what they really need is for someone to ask why they can’t breathe at work in the first place.

In this new episode of Lime, Listen & Learn: The People Leadership Lounge, Gary L. Davis of @equanimity.work and I are deconstructing the wellness room.

Not in a “wellness is bad” way.

More in a: what are people being asked to cope with, what has become normal at work, and what would we have to look at if another initiative was not the answer?

This clip is just a small piece of the conversation.

Having an uncomfortable conversation isn’t just a clarity problem.

Every conversation lands inside a person’s world, not just their ears. And that world is shaped by things you may not fully see.

Swipe through for the four context layers worth understanding before your next one.

If this resonates and you want to go deeper, my DMs are open.

This is 44.

Today I’m celebrating another year around the sun.

Not a milestone. Not a recap. Just a moment to pause.

This year feels different.

Quieter. Deeper. More grounded.

It’s about integration. About holding all the parts of me that once felt separate. The parts that lead, the parts that learn, the parts that rest.

Traveling solo again reminds me that expansion doesn’t always mean doing more. Sometimes it’s about being more of yourself, wherever you are.

So here’s to the next chapter:
🌿 Rooted in who I am
🌎 Expanding into what’s next
💜 Moving through the world whole!! by @pherneducationstudios

Hard conversations don’t go away just because we avoid them.

In fact, the longer we wait, the heavier they get.

🟣 The tension builds in the room.

🟣 The silence becomes its own message.

🟣 Trust starts to slip through the cracks.

For people leaders, these moments can feel impossible. Say the wrong thing and risk damaging trust. Say nothing and risk losing it anyway.

The CLEARER Conversations™ Experience is designed to shift that pattern. It gives managers a space to practice the conversations they’ve been putting off.

Instead of walking away unsure, they walk away with:
🟣 Language that makes hard conversations less overwhelming.

🟣 Tools to move from avoidance to connection.

🟣 Confidence to lead with care without losing direction.

The next Experience is happening this October 9 & 16, and applications are open now.

Get all the details here: https://www.pherneducationstudios.com/clearer-conversations-experience

If you are ready to transform how you show up in these moments, this is your invitation to step in.

And if you know others who this would be a good fit for, please feel free to share! by @pherneducationstudios

Workplace culture is often built on unspoken assumptions.
👉 That you’re fine with Slack pings at 9pm.
👉 That you prefer public praise.
👉 That your silence means “no problem.”

Consent and clarity should be the baseline—not just in friendships, but in leadership, collaboration, and feedback.

⚠️ If we want human-centered workspaces, we have to ask better questions, like:

How do you like to communicate?

How do you want feedback?

What kind of support feels good when you’re under pressure?

How do you want to be held in space—and how do you hold space for others?

This is people-led management in practice.
 No fluff. Just humanity.

Check out more on this in my conversation with Abbiola @pherneducationstudios in the most recent episode of the podcast!

That’s a leadership question. That’s a justice question. It’s also a consent question. It shouldn’t be left up to assumption.” slide 2: a graphic with a purple to white gradient background, purple text: Humaning: the shit we need to talk about, Episode 69: Brave space > safe space: what human-powered teams need, with guest Abbiola Ballah, and photos of Steff and Abbiola. a graphic with a black and white photo of an office space, a gray transparent square with white font and the gold steffgallante logo by @pherneducationstudios
