Pleased to announce the acquisition by the Flemish Government of this exceptional ‘Triumph of Minerva’ by Jacob Jordaens. A Highlight of Colnaghi Brussels’ inaugural exhibition last year, it will now be on permanent loan at the @plantinmoretus in Antwerp, joining what is arguably the most important and largest collection of Jordaens drawings in the world.

Upon Rubens’ death, Jordaens became the leading painter in Anwterp, receiving important private and public commissions such as this Triumph of Minerva. The scale and complexity of the present composition as well as its subject suggest that it must have been part of a larger public project either unfinished or disapeared. The sheet was once part of the Joshua Reynolds collection and was later owned by the renowned Belgian art historian R-A d’Hulst, a world-recognized authority on Jordaens and Rubens.

We are thrilled to see it given back to the Belgian and International public forever thanks to the appreciation of the Topstukken committee and @cultuurjeugdmedia.

The drawing is currently on view in Room 2 of the Plantin-Moretus Museum until July 5, so don’t miss the opportunity if you’re in town!

Looking back at our latest exhibition « Northern Lights - Masterpieces of Flemish Caravaggism » which just closed at Colnaghi in Brussels!

A highlight of the show was certainly this dramatic David holding the head of Goliath by the Flemish painter Hendrick de Somer, also called Enrico Fiammingo. A pupil of Ribera, he would later develop a singular style earning him important commissions in Naples. Coming from an Italian private collection, this work has now found a new home in a distinguished private collection.

I wish to thank @vanderauwera2018 for the very well documented introduction he wrote for our exhibition catalogue as well as @terzaghina, @spinosa_n and @luukpijl for their great essays.

And of course, grazie to my friend @helahela_ for the custom candles who brightened the opening night and to all visitors who came in numbers to (re)discover these overlooked but fascinating flemish masters!

Missed it? The exhibition catalogue is still accessible on the link in my bio.

What a treat to see our statue of Apollo reunited with Caravaggio’s Victorious Cupid for the first time, in London. Both works where once part of the revered Giustiniani Collection assembled by Vincenzo Giustiniani in Rome at the turn of the 17th century!

A Paragone moment to enjoy for free from today until 12 April 2026 at the Wallace Collection! #mustsee

Looking back at @colnaghi1760’s first participation at @brafaartfair in Brussels and the privilege to be able to show what the gallery does best in my native city.

We made many great encounters and closed some important sales among which an exquisite floral still life by Giovanna Garzoni, a striking profile study of a man by Cornelis de Vos and an elegant design for an Amphora by Josef Hoffmann.

A special thanks to my talented friend @alice.dalle for designing the booth and to all visitors who came to see us. See you next year 💙 by @philes.h

Hot off the press!

Rediscovered in an American private collection, this exceptional torso of Apollo was once part of the revered Giustiniani collection, assembled in the early 17th century by Vincenzo Giustiniani in Rome.

It has been such a pleasure to reconstruct the long history of this marble and publish it with the precious contributions of my colleagues Carlos Picón and Mickal Adler.

The sculpture is now on view @colnaghi1760 as part of @londonartweek_ so see you there!

Shaping the Divine

Carved in marble more than four millennia ago in Southern Anatolia, this perfectly preserved Kusura type idol of highly abstract form has historically been interpreted as a mother goddess figure.

It is the earliest object featured in « IDOLS & ICONS », an online exhibition going live @colnaghi1760 this Thursday 18 April at 12am CET 📌
