I traveled 2,867 miles to make 1 photograph. I flew from Florida to California because no one was willing to allow me to make this picture in Florida. I contacted school principals, administrators, teachers, local film bureaus, and every one of them said no. Even though I explained that my pictures aren’t about specific locations, they didn’t even want their school used as a non-specific set. I’m so grateful and thankful for my friend Jennifer in Hayward who was able to help grant me permission to build my set and make “School Day” a reality. The principal saw my other work in the series and understood that what I’m doing is trying to help prevent mass shootings and shine a spotlight on an urgent conversation that needs to happen and policies need to change. This is the key image of the entire series, My Family, and I’m relieved it actually happened. I DID IT!!! I survived a WEEK in Las Vegas, stayed at CIRCUS 🤡 CIRCUS, arguably one of the WORST places on earth, photographed inside many themed casinos (armed with my IPhone and the writings of Umberto Eco, Jean Baudrillard, George Ritzer, Hunter S Thompson, Guy DeBord, and Natasha Dow Schull’s “Addiction by Design.”) I made hundreds of pictures with the intention of a new book (tentatively titled—BUFFALO: New Travels In Hyperreality and the Casinofication of Everything), plus exhibitions, audio recordings for sound collage, video for context and psychedelic disruption. The first part is writing. I’m going to attempt to wrangle this octopus into a cohesive essay. Staying at Circus Circus for 5 days broke my brain. Much, much more to come, slowly, very slowly. #philipringler #philipringlerphotography #travelsinhyperreality #circuscircus #fearandloathinginlasvegas taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @philipringler

“The candy is no longer a substitute for the fruit; it has become the pure simulation of a sweetness that never existed in nature. “We have created new ‘cathedrals’ of consumption—places that enchant us so as to entice us to stay longer and consume more... These places of consumption, whether in our homes, the mall, or cyberspace, are in a constant state of ‘enchanting the disenchanted,’ luring us through new spectacles because their rational qualities are both necessary and deadening at the same time.” -George Ritzer #cathedralsofconsumption #georgeritzer #philipringler #philipringlerphotography #casinofication taken in The Venetian Resort Las Vegas by @philipringler

Drove 5 hours towards the aftermath of a hurricane to see my favorite experimental plunderphonic sound collage noise weirdos: @negativlandland The show was literally AWESOME. Like Awe inspiring. The visuals by @sue_c were astonishingly mesmerizing and chaotically beautiful! The improvised samples and sound happenings were equally brilliant, and were so funny I was often laughing so much I was in tears! I was happy to have a second after the show to talk with Mark( gave him a framed picture of “Sunday Service “- inflatable machine guns in a church) and my book. I also got a special moment of waving to @buddyrunyan54 The Weatherman! He saw me and pointed and smiled! I’m so incredibly glad i made this trip! #negativland is a huge influence on me as an artist and they continue to do great work that challenges the status quo and disrupts consensus reality. #philipringler #artistfriends #experimentalmusic taken in Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee by @philipringler
