There’s something powerful about having good men in your life.

Not just men you shoot the breeze with. Not just guys you know from work, church, sports, or around town. I mean the kind of men who do life with you—the kind who see a need and step in before you ever have to ask.

Last week, I was laying sod at my house. I didn’t ask anyone to come help. I didn’t put out a call for volunteers.

Tim Allred just knew I was doing it.

So he showed up and spent hours laying sod with me.

No announcement. No expectation. No fanfare. Just a friend who saw a friend doing something hard and thought, I’m going to go help him.

And this afternoon, Kevin Hatch (pictured here) did the same thing.

I mentioned that I was going to be doing some yard work today.

Kevin showed up.

He weedeated(weedate?). He shoveled fill dirt. He blew off the driveway.

Again, I didn’t ask.

He just came.

Those moments may look small from the outside, but they aren’t small to me. They are reminders of what friendship is supposed to look like.

You don’t have to carry everything by yourself.

There’s a reason this matters so much:

According to the Survey Center on American Life, in 1990, 55% of men said they had at least six close friends. By 2021, that number had fallen to just 27%. And the percentage of men reporting no close friendships increased from 3% to 15%. (The Survey Center on American Life)

That’s more than a statistic. That’s a warning.

Men need men.

We need people who know us, challenge us, encourage us, pray for us, laugh with us, call us out when we’re wrong—and sometimes just show up with a shovel, a weedeater, or a pair of work gloves.

Deep friendship doesn’t always look like deep conversations around a table.

Sometimes it looks like two guys sweating in the yard on a hot afternoon.

Sometimes love looks like, “I heard you were working today, so I came to help.”

I’m incredibly grateful for men like Tim and Kevin.

And I hope all of us will be intentional about building friendships like this—not just collecting acquaintances, followers, and contacts, but finding men who will walk through life with us.

Because none of us were meant to do it alone. by @philli06

Ward and I got to take our first trip to Dudey Noble Field and it didn’t disappoint. My Vols may have won, but Ward chose to wear a maroon shirt when I asked him which color. This man had the best time. He got a foul ball, home run ball and a signed by from Vols head coach Josh Elander. He danced and cheered and ate two buckets of popcorn. He may well be a bulldog after tonight. Thanks Ken Nelson for inviting us! by @philli06

We’re excited to kick off a brand-new four-week series tomorrow: “Week of Wonders.”

Together we’ll explore the powerful miracles Jesus performed during the final days of His earthly ministry.

What kinds of miracles were they?
What do they reveal about the heart and power of God?
What do they show us about ourselves?
And how should we live in response?

Each week will lead us closer to the greatest miracle of all—the resurrection of Jesus Christ—which we will celebrate together on Easter morning.

Come join us as we journey through the wonder, power, and hope found in Christ. We’d love to see you there! by @philli06
