I’ve been blessed to have some unforgettable moments on the water in the last 5 years but this one takes the cake. Tomorrow afternoon I’ll drop the full video of last Saturday’s trip in OCMD on Double Trouble Charters with Captain DJ. The story I’ll tell once we get through this year is “and it all worked out”.

Saw an open spot post on FB for yesterday’s @double_trouble_charters_dj trip and went through hell and high water to give Tog one last shot for 2025 with the gut feeling that Sunday would get blown out . After seeing some occasional 6-7 footers on the morning ride out to the grounds I was definitely questioning my life choices 😅. Caught the first keeper for the boat, dropped the second one then shorts only until 4 hours later when I broke off another hog on 50lb leader. Captain DJ was like “do you want to use 60# or whatever line that junk was”? Ummm 60# sir please and thank you 😆. Next anchor spot…I start getting a little scratch and boom…fought (3 runs ok?!?!) and landed this big beautiful girl at 14 lbs using my now retired custom Rainshadow E-glass rod ( new 1 coming soon) and a Daiwa Khoga spooled with 15lb braid. It’s been a grind on and off the water for me this year.

2025 was a year when I was contemplating giving up on this tog hunt and content creation in general. It felt like this month God was like “hold on let me show you something”…and that something was patience and perseverance.

From the 50K miles I’ve driven, the solo sleepless nights to drive and fish to other states, fighting my body when I wasn’t feeling well, to the detailed rearrangement of schedules on land, to watching and consuming so many fishing videos and articles and conversations with amazing anglers I’ve met along the way over the last 4 years…it was SOOOO WORTH IT…to prove to myself that hard work does pay off if I don’t give up. Definitely brought Galatians 6:9 to mind ”Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

So what a blessing it is for me to close out 2025 on a high note of a year filled with so many low ones. What a wild weekend on the water 🎣
Saturday kicked off with @nolimitdesportfishing in DE— 6 keepers for me, a couple solid roasters, and boat fish pushing 7–8 lbs with a full crew limit by **11:30am**… but those moon-tide swells had me seasick 80% of the day 😅
Sunday was the @fat.dad.fishing annual charter on @ospreyfishing — warmer weather, better conditions, and of course it seems like nice weather brings a much slower bite… but I sealed it with my only keeper for the day: a last-drop buzzer-beater 8lb pig on a @salvos_customs jig for **2nd place pool fish** 🐷🔥. My biggest tog in NJ and tying my jig PB in OCMD. Congrats on your beauty @billy.ackerman.7 🙌🏾. Huge shoutout to @scottysevins for coming in clutch with the spare GoPro batteries and catching the moment 💪🏾. Getting this fish on my new Eagles themed @jscompany_usa Inshore Supreme Light built by my bro @creely_therodbuilder from @advancedfishingusa made the catch even sweeter. Go Birds 🦅

Weekends like this are why I do it.

Wheeewwww…managed to finish out the 2026 fluke season with one final Limit Plus trip (4 ORL) on a grindy, swelly day on the water this past weekend 🎣🌊

I haven’t been fluke fishing in a couple months, so after shaking the dust off AND blowing up my baitcaster gear trying to throw too heavy of lead because of the current 😩🫠…I finally landed my first keeper in the morning.

After that, I continued plucking away NON-STOP at shorts until I finally figured it out and managed to put 3 more keepers in the box — 2 of them in the 4–5 lb range — to finish out my limit plus 💪🏾. I’ll take it considering the weather and the limited shots I’ve had on the water this year!

Shoutout to Mr. Henry for landing that 10.5 LB MONSTER that took the pool 🏆😮‍💨. I haven’t seen a fluke that big in a minute 👏🏾

And as per usual, the @fishmongercharters crew worked HARD — on the throttles and on the deck — to secure the boat limit for the day. Shoutout to Jerry, Shawn and Sem!! I appreciated all that patience on an “off” day for me 🫶🏾 Y’all are the best 🙌🏾

And to my rail sister Penny…gurrrl, I owe you some perfume samples for that fish or SOMETHING 😩😂🫠

This was the saltwater ocean therapy day I NEEDED, and I’m happy we got ’er done ✅💪🏾🎣

It was a dope experience getting out on the water in Puerto Morales, Mexico. The crew on the Sunny Rum boat were patient, knowledgeable, hilarious and even let me practice my Spanish a little bit while fishing. Managed to sneak a fishing trip into my family vacation last week in Riviera Maya (Cancun, Mexico) and caught my first Caribbean fish 🙌🏾🎣🇲🇽

The sargassum (seaweed) was INSANE on the beach and even further out in the ocean, which made it tough to tell if we were getting bit while trolling. But I started the trip off catching a juicy Bonito that the captain strung up for bait 😂.

We were hoping to hook into a grouper or swordfish trolling Ballyhoo and Bonito, but they weren’t cooperating, so we switched gears and closed the trip out snapper fishing.

Ended the half-day trip with 3 snapper, 1 banana fish and the Bonito — and Cliff came through with a buzzer-beater snapper right before it was time to head in 😂🙌🏾.

And when I tell y’all it was HOT?! 🥵 OKAYYYY! But I’m so happy I got a chance to get out on the water and try something new. Y’all know I HATE fishing right-handed 😂, but I figured it out — all while practicing my Spanish with the crew ☺️.

Definitely a fishing trip to remember. First Caribbean fish officially in the books 🎣🌴🇲🇽🙌🏾

The skunk is finally overrrrr 🤣. For the last few years I always tag along on @mikesjigs charter with one of my favorite captains @capt_leb @fishmongercharters for my birthday and it never disappoints. Always a great time full of laughs and some of the most awkwardly hilarious one liners EVER 🤣. Blessed to be able to make it another year around the sun (for which I now need to bring the big hat out to protect this skin 😅😝) and make more awesome memories and friends out on the water. 2026 Spring fishing started off slow to say the least but just like the old adage...3rd time’s a charm. Had a dope day on the water with the Mohawk boys and managed to scrape together a good catch.

After a long week of work, I’m so glad I pushed my tired self to get out on the water today.

I decided to spend the day fishing with the Big Mohawk family, and it was exactly what I needed. From catching up with the crew after a couple of years, to Capt. Payton putting on a jigging clinic, to the great conversations with some of the regulars, the day couldn’t have been better. The weather was perfect (hoodie weather in the morning) and I headed home with a cooler full of my favorite fish to eat in the Northeast (2 on jigs the rest on bait).

One piece of wisdom that stuck with me came from a regular who’s got about 30 years of wisdom on me. After swapping sea bass recipes, he said:

*”Don’t wait to live your life. It goes by so fast.”*

Sometimes fishing trips are just boat rides. Other times, they’re a breath of fresh air, a whole lot of laughs, boat limits by noon and a little perspective.

Today was one of those days.
