Happy 250th American Independence Day from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

The United States of America was established on this day, 250 years ago, with the Second Continental Congress formally adopting the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With that, the original 13 colonies had freed themselves from British rule.

Happy Juneteenth from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity!

From the National Museum of African American History:
“Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas.”

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia

“Life at its best is a creative synthesis of opposites in fruitful harmony.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., his ideals, and his messages about standing up against opposition to harmony amongst each other. His dream of people, no matter the difference, coming together in unity is still a mighty vision to this day. Let us continue this vision and his legacy with action and service.

Take time today to reflect on and think about Dr. MLK, Jr.’s ideas and how you can incorporate them in your daily life and actions so that justice, unity, and harmony may prevail in the world. by @phimualpha

Each Thanksgiving, we want remember to thank YOU - our zealous undergraduates who are persevering through a difficult school year, our dedicated alumni who have found creative ways to connect and support Brothers across the country, our selfless donors who continue to support our programs and scholarships, and our wonderful friends who continue to be great allies of Phi Mu Alpha.

Without you, the vision of a Brotherhood in Music that started in Boston, Massachusetts, would not have endured for well over a century.

As we celebrate all that we are grateful for, take a moment to tag, text, or call a Sinfonian you know and tell him why you’re thankful for him. by @phimualpha
