Crispe Park in Birchington. 📌 To get here walk thru the park or park on Wilbrough Road for easy access. It's a cute calm spot and there's some huge Monterey Cypress trees which are originally from a smol part of California but do great on our salty coast.

Replaced 20 Sycamore trees which had developed sooty bark disease with 40 different species to help this little woodland keep doing its thing. (Crab apple, beech, birch, oak, spindle, blackthorn, cherry) The mixture of species will increase biodiversity and we planted trees with blossom loved by pollinators too.

This is thanks to a new agreement by TDC to replace every tree lost with 2 more. Slow progress! Next I want to get agreement to reduce mowing and strimming to leave areas of long grass for wildlife and wildflowers and us! 🌾🪻☘️🐞🕷

Human finds strawberry tree, cheers them right up. These lil babies are coping really well in our changing climate, and providing shelter and food for birds, pollen for pollinators and joy for humans. Sweet!

I’m thinking a lot about community gathering spaces today, as I fight with a sore heart alongside two queer venues that are struggling in this capitalist cis het patriarchy. Lime tree species have always held us under their branches, as spiritually symbolic in China & Mongolia, deeply respected for the materials they provide in the colonised lands of Indigenous North America, and in parts of Central Europe, they have been spaces of community decision making. I take comfort in that. This fight is ongoing, we stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us and it will continue. lol the only thing keeping my lil fire burning is trees! 🌳

thanks to all the queers creating spaces of belonging inside and outside. Also big thanks to @bonvolks for the radical care when they still paid me for the park walk I couldn’t deliver because I’d had a bike accident. This snippet is also for you and the swift project 🪶💕

I take my role as chosen family auntie very seriously. We all need aunties/uncles/besties who show up for us, different adult figures to parents or teachers. I have loved being baby G's auntie these last ten years, all the actual rollercoasters, the deep dinosaur knowledge, the pokemon, the football. He is now grown but still the best cuddler.

Day 1 of me trying to relax my nervous system as essential companion. 7am

I'm laughing crying that my therapist was telling me just yesterday that me worrying about my partner's next surgery wasn't helpful and I can hand all that over to the doctors and nurses. The thing is, I spent all morning advocating for my partner to have the hospital bed they were due to have tonight, and they spent it not being believed for their pain levels.

How on earth do we calm our overactive nervous systems in all this?!

Come and spend a few hours this Autumn/Winter with nature. Help plant some urban woodlands and have a peaceful moment to yourself. Trees have a lot to teach us about rest and recovery. Woody plants do best planted in Autumn & Winter as they focus their little energy on getting settled by sending their roots down. This means that come Spring, they have strong foundations and can bloom. Beaut!
