After two weeks of nonstop crocheting this bad boy is finished!!! This was wicked fun to make. I had no real vision going into this project but I love the direction I went with it. I got funky and added some beading which I’ve never done before. & I got fancy with it and added freshwater pearls as little accents along the stitching. I love the way the shells and wooden beads sound when they clank together on the sleeves. This little number is so cute and fun!! Can’t wait to wear this around. 🏜️🌞🌊 taken in Taos, New Mexico by @phoenixalixart

Haven’t taken this hat off all winterrr

I’ve been too busy playing in the snow and reading Fourth Wing to focus on crocheting recently. :/ but I’ve got dat itch. I need to start listening to more audiobooks so I can crochet and read at the same time. 🤓 taken in Jay, Vermont by @phoenixalixart

Update regarding Pheenie-beaniessssss‼️ I have been finishing my new she shed (aka art studio / sewing shed aka Macaroni’s dog house) which I’m SO frickin excited about. HOWEVER, this project, like most projects, is taking longer than expected. All of my sewing stuff is in storage until I can move it into the shed, so I’ve had to put a hold on pheenie-beanies this winter :,( but Y’ALL I’m gonna be a changed women when this shed is up and runninggg I have some new designs in the works and I can’t wait to put them into action. Possibly a new hat design 👀 possibly some outerwear 👀 and definitely some classic pheenie-beanies. I MIGHT be able to do a very small run of hats in February but that’s a hard maybe. But there will 1000% be more to come in the future when the shed is complete. Ight thanks for tuning in, I’ll be painting and maybe crocheting in the meantime. 🤝 by @phoenixalixart

I started this project back in June when I set out to create a piece with two textures—half crocheted, half knit—blending two techniques. Crocheting came naturally but the knitting waited. I don’t know how to knit. I dug this project out today and it felt like the seasons slowly meeting. This project will continue to wait, like a quiet lesson saved for the first snowfall. & by the end, I’d like to think this sweater will carry the patience of summer and the promise of winter.

🌞🍁❄️

Autumn makes me sappy, but I feel more creative when the seasons change, so I’ll embrace it until the feeling fades and Vermont’s gloom persists. taken in Burlington, Vermont by @phoenixalixart

I think shiny objects are the most rewarding to paint! It’s so fun to watch the image come to life with each layer of paint. Here are some things I’ve learned along the way:

•Start with a solid base of the darkest, most muted colors. (I failed to do this for the silver part of the watch, so it’s not necessary, none of these tips are necessary, but I’ve come to learn they make painting more enjoyable).

•I like to pay close attention to the colors that reflect off the surface when adding highlights and shadows—sometimes they surprise me.

•Lastly I like to use bolder strokes for the bright spots and softer ones for the shadows to create that smooth, shiny effect.

I’m kinda dreading the keys but I’m also excited to see them come together. I can’t wait to finish this painting. I started it back in June when I was living in Taos, NM. I set up objects that I was using on the daily. I spent a lot of time outside, listening to audiobooks, crocheting… Looking at this image brings me right back, which makes me want to paint more images that evoke that same sense of nostalgia.

I adored the process of setting up the objects, laying them out strategically yet haphazardly, taking photographs, then narrowing it down to the perfect reference photo. Overall the process of painting still life’s has been so fun and I can’t wait to paint more.
