⚡️Speed is a game changer no matter the age or level. Here’s how professional organizations approach sprint training:

1. Sprint Often⏰

-0-10m & 20-40m
-Linear and Curvilinear

2. Jump, Hop, Bound 🐰
-Horizontal & Vertical
-Double & Single leg
-Extensive & Intensive

3. Fast Loaded Movements ⚡️
-Olympic Lifts
-MB Throws
-Explosive lifts

4. Slow Loaded Movements 🐌
-Compound Movements
-Single & Double leg by @phoenixstone.hpt

Put your time and energy in high yield places…📈

Athletes will always have a checklist, learning how to navigate time constraints means finding areas of development that give your more for less🧠

Development to me means success in four areas:

1. Mindset- your brain is powerful, make sure you spend time acknowledging what goals you have and why they would be important to you
2. Physical development- can’t be a successful athlete if you aren’t deliberate about how you train both in and out of sport
3. Nutrition- improves your performance in 1 and 2. So essential for wellbeing and physical development no matter who you are
4. Recovery-a widely untapped resource in youth sports. Those who recover faster, adapt faster and sustain higher levels of performance

Emotion, Devotion and DOUBLE PROMOTION🍻🍻

Incredibly thankful to everyone at CYS for making this inaugural season one to remember, there aren’t two groups of individuals who deserve these results more.

Posture tells all.

Pay attention to the shins, trunk and feet, they tell a story. 📚

Combining Speed with Power and Strength work? SEQUENCING MATTERS! ⬅️

I’ve been getting questions on how to organize a training day since I’ve started this power training mini series.

The reality is it’s quite simple!

We want to…

🏃‍♂️‍➡️Start with our highest velocity movements (speed, agility, quickness) drills

🤾‍♂️Continue with any Power/plyometric/rate of force development work

🏋️‍♂️Finish with strength/accessory work

🚴And hop on a bike for our energy system development as well😉

An inside look at a VO2 max test at the university of Waterloo. Really fun to be a part of the collaboration with the @ohlrangers on this one.

Wondering what all these fancy gadgets are and how it works?

VO2 max tests give us info regarding maximal oxygen uptake during exercise. This can be helpful to use as a diagnostic tool to determine and compare fitness levels.

At the professional level, sports like hockey, soccer, combat sports and endurance sports (runners, cyclists, triathletes) make good use of this test.

Typically, someone will perform the test on a bike or treadmill, incrementally increasing the intensity until the tested individual cannot go any further.

The higher a VO2 max, the better the heart and lungs are at delivering oxygen to tissues (better at providing energy to the body under stress).
